Do you give money to beggars?

i live in a third world country and it's a common sight to see beggars on the street in the city areas; some young, some old , some mothers carrying with them their offsprings as young as one month old! , and some children carrying plastics filled with rugby (an inhalant used to forget their hunger).they line on the streets and sometimes tugging your shirt or simply pestering you with their soulful eyes asking for money to buy food.
i cannot blame them for being jobless and poor as my family has just enough to keep me where i am now, nor i cannot blame the government for making them what they are for all i know it is their disposition in life.i pity them sometimes but most of the times i just ignore them. know why? well here's a first hand info. once i gave money to a poor-looking kid pretending to be lame only to find out later that he could run and even used the money to gamble with other street children!
now that's not fair, huh? what about you?

Hah, i only give to those who "work" for the money, like those blind or disabled people who sing or play the guitar at sidewalks, at least they are doing something for themselves right? even though they can't find a job at least they are doing something, entertaining people and using their own voice and talent to earn money in a legal way. At least i don't worry at all about where they'll use the money because they earned it.
Sometimes i hate those kids who get in jeepneys and "wipe" your shoes by just swiping it and then go around asking for money. I mean, what the heck is that? You call that working for money? i mean you just swiped it and didn't really get to clean anything and you're asking me to pay you? I'm like, no way. I know they're just kids, and i'm not being cruel here but really now, i never give to them unless they deserve it.
But giving food is a new notion to me.... hm... i guess i should have food or snacks with me to give to those little kids.

Hello september!!!
I know it's unfair because this happened to me too.. so instead of giving them money, i give them food so I'm assured that the money is not used for gambling or used to buy those harmful inhalant that they're using. **wink** tc friend.
