Well I know this may be a bit early, but since I am having people coming over for dinner I already decided on what I will be preparing the menu is as follows:
Meats: Turkey, ham,
Vegetables: Collard greens, potatoe salad, macaroni and cheese, deviled eggs, corn,
Bread: biscuits, crescents, rolls, and sandwich bread
Desserts: Sweet Potato Pie, Cookies-chocolate chip and sugar cookies, banana pudding, and lemon pound cake w/ chocolate icing
What are you preparing for Thanksgiving Dinner? If you have any suggestions please feel free to make them I want to know if you tend to shy away from the traditional style dinner.

We will have the traditional meal that I grew up with. I have not changed it a bit. It just brings back such memories. We will have turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, peas, carrots, turnips, celery with crean cheese, dinner rolls, and for dessert Pumpkin pie and another choice. It depends. Back in the day my family had mincemeat pie as well, but I don't care for mincemeat pie. And I don't really know anyone that does. It's kinda like people not liking fruitcake.

i can see that you are a sentimental person. i love that attitude in people. this is because i am a very sentimental one, too. keeping all those ways of the past if i can, yes, it brings back good memories...really happy ones. good luck, irishmist, on that day of the celebrations. may it be happy and fun filled.

We're actually going out of town that day, but probably late morning/afternoon, so we're going to get together with our family and have thanksgiving breakfast. a nice full spread and still get to spend some time before going away for the weekend. its the first time we've tried a thanksgiving breakfast though. we will probably just stick with the typical biscuits, sausage, bacon, eggs, etc

That sounds good and is different from what alot of people do which is only get together for dinner. I never considered having breakfast. I might try that one year if my family will allow us to not have the traditional turkey and dressing.

I don't think that we will be having a traditional Thanksgiving this year, because we live too far from our families to visit them for Thanksgiving. Last year, we had grilled steak and shrimp for one of our Thanksgiving dinners, and then a more traditional one later that day with our friends.
This year, we will probably just buy some nice steaks and grill them for Thanksgiving. Either that, or I will make a pot roast. But it probably won't involve turkey at all! :)

I know that it will be huge again this year for us! It will be me and my three kids, my nieghbors oand their 8 kids, my friends and their 2 kids, and my boyfriend. We will be 2 turkeys, 1 ham, stuffing, dressing, salad, veggies (not sure wich yet though), 2 apple pies, 2 pumpkin pies, banana bread, and we always end up making more, lol! I love combining with my nieghbors. Her husband is home this year, last year he was in Iraq. Being military families who don't have family here, we have combined holidays for almost 3 years now!

That's good that you guys are sticking together and sharing the holiday season together being that your spouses are away in Iraq. It will probably be even better now that they will be home for the holidays. I forgot about the dressing and the apple pies thanks for reminding me I will add that to the list.

I will be having ToFurkey and stuffing, cranberry sauce, mushroom gravy, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole. We've been vegetarian for 12 years now, but Thanksgiving is almost the same as when I was a kid. Oh, and of course Pecan and Pumpkin Pies for dessert.

I looveee to cook!! I love cooking thanksgiving dinner, but I get upset because I can't cook the turkey....my dad just smokes it since turkeys take so long to cook...we only have one oven so it takes too much time away from the other food we have to cook.
I usually make....
turkey, dressing, butterbeans, mashed potatoes/hashbrown casserole, chicken n dumplins (for the people who don't like turkey and dressing...those crazy nuts!), then a bunch of desserts

i am from the philippines yet i know how much people from the americas celebrate thanksgiving. my parents have had the opportunity to have lived with the americans then. there's always turkey and ham and all the delicious foods that americans can lay their hands on on this day. according to my parents the occasion is given so much importance such that at times, it overshadows the way other occasions are being celebrated. you might be disappointed if i cannot give you anymore recipes to add to your list. you have quite a number already for a real sumptous dinner celebration. good luck and may that day be filled with fun, joy and excitement.

On Christmas, we do prime rib or ham, something different, but for Thanksgiving, its always turkey.
I prepare the turkey with olive oil and rosemary and garlic. We have Mediterranean bread stuffing, garlic mashed potatoes and giblet gravy, roasted brussels sprouts with butter and pecans, corn and peppers, fresh fruit salad with yoghurt, cranberry sauce, 2 kinds of olives, and rolls.
For dessert we have pumpkin and mince pies, and my daughter's amazing pumpkin/chocolate cheesecake. We used to be more traditional, but this meal
is so flavorful that we don't stuff ourselves... and have plenty of leftovers!
