Why do some people like tanning?

When I was young no one would dare enter summer without a tan, white legs were a no no, even though in those days a girl would never go out with stockings, common sense should have told us that burning your skin was not good, today with all the information about cancer and what too much sun does to your skin people still lay out in the sun, I can see the damage that I have done to my skin and I think of the young ones today, still tanning even though today a nice white skin yes and even white legs are so acceptable girls don't even have to wear stockings, I wish the young today would read what the medical people are telling them, for their own sakes, white is ok...

I guess it makes you look more healthy than those who have fair skin. Getting tanned once in a while should be alright.

I never went in for "frying" my body even as a teenager when it seems to start for most girls. I think it all has to do with the "beautiful people" syndrome. If you don't have a great tan there's no beauty....I don't think there's a movie star who isn't very well tanned.

i asked my husband about why they like to tan their skin here in US, he said that they just like a person to have a healthy color on their skin, not too dark and not pale looking since there are a lot of white skin people here i guess. They think it's more healthier looking to have a little color on their skin. :)
