Alcoholic Drinks

I come from Indonesia and I don't drink. Well, I did once try an alcoholic drink but the alcohol percentage was probably lower than 1%. Now that I'm in Finland, the land of the people who love beer and cider and alcoholic drinks, I wonder why some people are so interested in getting me to try an alcoholic drink?
I like cider, but only light cider (max. 1.2% alcohol level), but I dislike beer (never tasted it, 'coz I disliked the smell already).
Why do people like getting drunk, I wonder? I've heard that being tipsy can be fun 'coz then you'll loosen up and not be uptight. However, I dislike getting a headache, so I don't ever want to get drunk 'coz I don't like getting any hangover (I'm sure I'd get one if I ever get drunk).

If you are not into drinking, then my advice is don't start. Don't indulge in drinking for the sake of drinking, to give in to peer pressure or just to drink because everyone else is doing so. If you get into the habit and cannot control yourself, you may ruin yourself and those around you. Besides, think of how much you can save over the years by not drinking. You can spend the money on worthwhile things that have value to you.

Thanks, Lexus, I'm not planning on starting to drink he he he...I was just wondering why some people who drink are so eager to introduce some drinks to non-drinkers. That's all he he he...
You're right about the money, as well. I don't wanna spend my money on buying drinks. There are healthier kinds of drinks like milk and yoghurt which I like he he he he...I'd rather spend money on those drinks instead. ;-D

you dont need to get drunk to enjoy a drink..
having a drink or 2 really has nothing to do with getting drunk..
when you want to get drunk you drink more then that..
but to just have a drink or 2...it isnt bad..and you wont get drunk...

Sure Bonnie, I agree with you. There is nothing wrong with a little drink, as long as one knows how to exercise control and not let it turn into a vice. Drinking addiction starts with a little seep... and for some people, one thing then leads on to another. Those who don't start will definitely avoid this problem altogether.

Try some hard drinks, they don't really give you headaches the following day. :)

I too do not have habit of taking drinks. In fact in our community, those who drink are looked down. But there are places in the world where drinks are a must due to climatic conditions. Glad to note that you do not drink. also glad to note that you are from Indonesia a land which has traces of Indian culture like Ramayana etc.

So it's similar like in Indonesia, then. Those who drink are looked down. Oh yes, you're right, in Indonesia Ramayana is quite a popular story. ;-D Glad to hear you don't drink, either. ;-D

I think in cold climates drinking is so popular for the social aspect as well as the 'drunkenness' aspect. In the middle of winter, when it's too cold to go outside or do anything, and people have to stay indoors, going to a pub or bar is one of the few places to meet up with friends and have a good time while still keeping warm!
Getting a little drunk is fun---it does lower your inhibitions and help you to relax. Getting more than a little drunk is no fun at all, because you start to feel sort of dizzy and out of control, and the headache the next day is killer! (The key to avoiding a bad hangover, I've found, is lots of water before you go to sleep and a nice fattening meal the next morning. ;) )
