Can you watch Blu-Ray in a DVD player?

I have yet to purchase a Blu-ray or Blu-ray movies.....my question is Can you watch a Blu-ray movie in a standard Dvd player? Are the movies of better quality? I see them in stores and am tempted to purchase the Blu-ray for a few extra bucks if the quality is better.

Yes, Blu-ray Player is required to play the Blu-ray Discs. The video quality will be better than the normal DVDs. Please check that most of the Blu-ray Players won't play the HD DVDs. You can consult the manufacturer before investing the money.
