Hi cajun,
If you are sick, then I agree with you, you probably shouldn't be there anyway. But if you were not sick, would you work overtime or would ask to go home, claiming you were sick? You would be surprised at how many people would go home.
Thanks for your response.

In my case I am an admitted workaholic, so I'd go for the overtime just to help out. I already tend to work nights and weekends right now anyway because we have a big project at work that is taking most of my time. But luckily I am paid hourly, so working the overtime is definitely worth my while. I would probably not be as willing if I wasn't getting compensated for the time. But in the end, I'd probably still do it. (unless I had other plans in place...)

hi dpurchas,
You remind me of myself. A total workaholic, nights, weekends, sick or not, I would not lie about being sick just to get out of overtime. Like you, I would go for the money. Thanks for responding and sharing.

well if im really sick, I'd wait till it's time for me to go back and I'll go back home straight away. I don't think I'd care about overtime if I'm feeling really really sick or having a massive headache or something. I just wanna go back home to rest and sleep. i don't get paid for overtime though, since where i work they only pay overtime for someone who earns below a certain amount.

Thanks for responding, you have a very good point there, and I agree with you. I wouldn't even go to work with a massive headache.

well if you had important things other to do and wanted to be with your family then i would, but if the over time pays well and you need the money than i would stay because it would be worth it in the long run.

hi sajidnsr,
You're definitely taking a stand there! Someday, you may be in a situation where overtime for your job may be mandatory. I would be curious to see how you handle that one. Thanks for your thoughts.

hi sampip,
Thanks for your response! At times hours are changed due to a shortage of people. In that case, you may have to work the overtime in order to keep your job. I do wish you well in the work force..LOL

If the case is that they always require you to render overtime, you can do this.
However, you can always say that you have some appointment with friends that you have already committed to.
Your boss would eventually notice if you are just faking it, he/she might be that paranoid. Heh heh heh.
Good luck!
Cheers!

Hi minesky,
Good points here. I guess it really depends on the individual as to how money they have and how much they need or want. The other side is how bad do they want their job? In the end the boss will catch on it this becomes a routine. Thanks for you view.

If I had a job that paid well, and paid time and a half, I wouldn't do that, I would really want the extra cash! But my job doesn't pay for overtime. They stop at 40 hours, and won't pay anything over that. (Iw work in a resturant, and they say that you make tips, so you should be happy that you are there longer). Isn't that illegal? Anyhow, maybe if I was tired, and didn't feel well, I would do that.

hi hgosinski,
You have some very good points here. In your particular case, you want the money, so you would stick out your shift. I can understand that. And since you don't get overtime now, then you would go for the money.
But if you had a 40 hour work week, would you still want the money, or would your feelings change? Maybe, maybe not. I appreciate your thoughts on the topic, that way I see it fromm another's view.
Happy pposting..
