Warning: Don't read if you want to keep your appetite he he he...
Question: What're the most exotic kinds of food that you've dared tried? Anything from your own home country?
In Indonesia, people eat cow's brain, cow's tongue, cow's intestines, frogs, snails, and chicken feet. I personally LOVE all of them (except snails - they're OK but not too tasty), esp. when my Mom cooks them 'coz she's a WONDERFUL cook.
So tell me your own experience, where you tasted it/them, and how did you like the exotic food that you tried?

actually, it wasnt the taste that turned me off because it was ordered from one of the popular restaurants... rather the time needed to eat it. im always on the run and i like to eat my food quickly... as long as it is not spicy, i guess it's worth a try, let's say, "a feet"....LOL... have u tried eating brains of the chicken?

I am not very adventurous when it comes to trying new and different foods, however the most exotic thing I've tried is squid and it tasted vile, it was rubbery and I spat it out! Never again! I prefer to eat foods that I know I enjoy. I definitely won't be eating squid again! My friend has had frogs legs and said they tasted like chicken, I was upset because I keep frogs and I would never eat one of my pets!

I actually LOVE squid. My hubby can't understand that, either. I guess I love rubbery food as long as it's cooked with the right spices he he he he...

i saw most responses in your discussion said calamari as one of the exotic food
i'm very surprised people answered calamari as an exotic food LOL
my most exotic food would be grasshoppers in Thailand !
never again i had that dish in my entire life !!
yucksss !!
once i saw on the discovery channel,
there is a local food called 'ballut', it's from philipine
you might have heard it before, it's an almost-hatched duck egg
you can find its head and body inside the egg, and the philipinos ate them without hesitation, OMG !!

I am a picky eater so the most exotic thing I have tried is Sushi. It was gross. I spit it out on the floor in the restaurant. I tried it here in America and I feel bad for the person who had to clean that up but it just did not taste good.

I had similar discussion liek you but it get deleted.I don't know why and never really find out.But at least I can reposnd to your discussion. The most exotic food was frog legs.It taste like a chicken , but I don't care that much about it.I eat cow's tongue, but it is nothing exotic to me.We just regularly eat at home and even my man say it is the best roast beef he ever eat.And he ate it first time, he thought he would not like it, but now he loves it.

I'm not much of an adventurer so here are the most exotic foods I have tried:
1. Dinuguan - Pork stew made from pig blood. Tastes good if made with the right ingredients.
2. Ginataang kuhol - Small snails cooked in coconut milk. You take the snail out of its shell using a toothpick. Tastes good!

THANKS for sharing! ;-D

I think the most exotic food I ever ate, was chocolate covered crickets.
But also eaten squids, monkeys, tasted haggish, foods made form varios intestines, brains hearts livers and what not. Live worms, live insects..
I used to travel a lot, and we used the rule to learn as much about the country as possible, which included their foods. We loved to test excactly that, and we expanded our culinary experiences so much that I no longer really feel any food is nasty. its just culturally biased. Its rather about what you normally eat compared to what others eat as standard foods :D

WOW, Bundsk, you are really adventurous!!! Tsk tsk tsk...I don't think I dare eat live worm or insect he he he he...I don't wonder that you no longer feel any food is nasty based on what you've told me he he he...VIVA LA FOOD! ;-D

Snails is not exotic for me, as we have a lot of them in our country. What my mom usually do, is just put it in a bowl of water till the snails spill the extra dirt they have, then boil in a new clean water, put some salt and tanglad leaves or ginger, some snails we cooked it with coconut milk and it tastes so delicious. Chicken feet is also one of popular menu in my home country, cooked with vinegar, garlic, pepper and soy sauce. Sometimes, chicken feet is being sold just like barbecues. It is also one of my favorite.
One of the most exotic food i had eaten is called "KINILAW NA PANIKI" or bats. The bat meat mixed with vinegar, onion, calamnsi or lemon juice and salt to taste. It taste a little sweet and sour. Bats eats fruits that what makes them tastes so good too.

Bats? Now this is a new one I've never heard before. So they're tasty because of that reason? Interesting!!! THANKS for your response. ;-D

Freak? No. Maybe you should be a Fear Factor contestant, though he he he...
I heard that snake tasted a bit like chicken. How about the rest of the stuff you mentioned? Some people in Indo eat dog meat, too, and they say it makes the stomach feel warm afterward. I don't know about that, though.
