As some of you know My fiance and I recently moved in together and plan to marry next spring. I'm freelance graphic designer, but I'm in university finishing my studies in International Economy. My fiance is a really great person, very descent one, polite, hard working and he does not want to hurt anyones feelings. His occupation is software development and he works for the largest company in my country for software development. There are more than 300 employees and this is considered a big company in a small country as the one that we live in. He started to work for this company only 7-8 months ago, and has several problems with his team leader, project manager and some of his coworkers. Having several issues with his managers, as well some of the coworkers just because he made some suggestions on improvement. The situation is so heated at the moment, and they are talking all sorts of bad words to his manager. They even accused him of being negligent and he was the only one who did thinking and was making suggestions on improvement. The situation developed this morning into larger one, with my fiance having a meeting with his manager, when he found out that his coworkers were rude enough to smile with him telling jokes and stuff the other day, while talking back to their manager. My fiance made a decision on what to do next but he is not happy with this kind of behavior and to be surrounded by this kind of people. Years ago I was working for the largest corporation in graphic design field around 4 years. I gained Internal Auditor certificate on ISO9001 and successfully completed the certification process. I loved my job, the reason why I made a decision to study International Economics was partly because of learning management processes while doing the certification. The same situation I had at my work my fiance has now. After 4 years working for this corporation I was accused that I never worked anything from my coworkers. I decided to quit my job and started my freelance work. But the corporation that I worked for now has only 20-25% of the employees they had while i was working for them. I made a conclusion that this kind of things are common for my country, cause while I was working for a foreign company in my country never had this kind of problems, and I'm somehow wondering if these people went together to some kind of course of something that educated them in direction on anti-management principles and how to drown your corporation in debt. This is a type of cancer that can destroy any company. The real conclusion is - STUPID PEOPLE DO MAKE STUPID SOCIETY! Sorry friends for such a long post - but had to share What do you think?

Its not just there trust me. I worked for the Australian Gov and the way they treated their workers was discusting (to a point its not the Gov fault but they are aware of what is going on) we had such high turn over it was beyond joke. I was paid less than what I was suposed to get (I had the diploma but they didnt want to recognise it for some reason long story to write it now). we were overworked and had to deal with all kinds of things. after having my son i went back to ask for my job and I was told no problem, filled in all the dociment had 3 interviws and all went great I was even told I would start in 2 weeks than got the letter to say you cant.

Thanks Violeta on your response. I'm not expecting any kind of change in this kind of work environment, I'm more realistic in my views. But I wouldn't want to work for this kind of company in future, even if they offer bigger salaries... There are some priorities in life and people should not accept anything... Hope you're doing great :)

I think you really are right about that! I can see that to my couuntry which is philippines. Government officials are doing stupid things just for money without knowing that their stupidity will come back to them. They only add to all the stupid people in the world...such a crap!

First of all thanks on your response :) I'm not saying that only Government is responsible for this kind of behavior but there must be sanctions for this and must be a way to stop people maltreating others just because they like it so.

It's not just your country where this kind of thing happens. It happens in companies everywhere. It is a very common thing for workers to accuse others, manipulate situations to try to get ahead for themselves in some way. Then there are some people who just thrive on causing trouble and making others miserable. It's just part of human nature, and yes, it is stupid and people who act like that usually end up hurting themselves as well as others.

I'm not saying that these kind of things only happened in my country, I'm just saying that this kind of behavior is destructive, anti-motivating and not even descent. I know that many countries do have this kind of problems, even worse, but my country lacks on treating these issues... unfortunately... Thanks for replying

My sister is in somewhat same position as what you mentioned. But she did some research on this and the situation is that, all the bad behavior isnt really the coworkers, but rather the manager. The manager has nearly all the traits of a psycopath, and this creates a very unstable work environment. Coworkers gets set up against each other, deals are broken and everyone is either upset or trying to do better on others expense. Research shows that sadly a much higher % of bosses or managers have psycopathic tendencies than is normal in a society. This is because many of the same traits wanted in a boss lies so near to how a psychopath works. Late research shows that nearly 10% of all bosses fall into the category psycopath. It doesnt always show at the start, but when the tendencies are first shown they will never stop again. All advices about this area of workproblems suggest that ppl RUN, and run fast away from there. The fighting to better the workplace will take such a huge toll on a person that you may brake without even changing anything. And more often than not, the psycopath will win without having to strain himself. Those that recruited him or gave him his advancement, dont want to see that they did something wrong.. and thats the first hurdle. The next hurdle is getting rid of a boss or manager, and thats even harder, because most ppl think that all can improve, and they would rather request improvement over firing. If you know a translation tool from danish to english Ill gladly share the research studies and advices about situations like that. They are really good at explaining what to look for and what to do, also if I was mistaken in my assumption that its a psycopath manager rather than a disfunctional workspace (first is a LOT more likelyl than the second, as its the managers job to secure the workspace... so if its off, somethings wrong at the top). Best of wishes to your fiancee

There are quite some people in the community that are so conservative without willing to accept any idea of innovation. It is really hard to work together with them. I am so sorry to hear the situation that both you and your fiance have experienced. I hope that things will get better on your fiance's side.

Thanks William on your reply. In a way its good to have this kind of experience. In future you as person will not approach things in life with great expectations. Things are going for the better right now. We plan to start our own business and meanwhile my fiance started to find new job... :) I'm going to be the one who will manage the business and it's going to be home business in graphic, web design and software development. We do have strength to continue our road and to build our future by ourselves.

Dont worry it happens everywhere...its what my Mom calls the REAL WORLD! Sometimes you just have to ignore people like that and carry on with your own work and when the situation gets too bad its best to leave. What matters is that you stick to your principles and behave in a conduct fitting to you. If your boss or manager is an experienced person he/she may be able to tell the difference and value your contribution. I had a very bad experience at my first job everyone seemed to be manipulative and conniving and always trying to get you in trouble, after that I left it for another job things were pretty laid back my boss was really nice and I ahd couple of friendly colleagues as well. Dont give up hope there are still good people out there....we all have to run in to our share of rotten one as well though! Have a nice day :)

No, it happens not only in your country but also happens in everywhere. Sometimes, the problem is getting out of control because two or three bad people at the company are being "encouraged" to do so either by the company's management or by other co-workers. People at the company are often feeling "amused" when those bad people are doing "destructive" behaviors to a certain co-worker. Since such behaviors are being "encouraged" without any "strict" policy about it, these things are spreading out of control to others, too. All of "social" and business situations will be controlled by those bad people. I think it will definitely cost the company sooner or later because working environment is going to be "sour". Working morale will be jeopardy. The company is not going to be a pleasant environment to work with. Labour turnover will soon become a serious matter. Finally, the company's bottom line will be affected indirectly because the management is always focusing on recruiting their new employees. The working practice will also be affected and it may also be seen by outsiders (i.e., suppliers, clients, distributors, etc.).
