My folks used to make their own noodles, by hand. They would work the dough and then roll it out with a rolling pin ever so thin - then they would cut the noodles in long strips. after that they would drape them over broom handles, mop handles, towel bars etc (all meticulously scoured before hand) we had a small kitchen and it was filled with drying pasta and piles of flour...hehe.
I bought an electric pasta machine and never had a bit of luck with it - the consistency of my dough was never quite right.

it sounds to me like such a task to be making homemade pasta. there is nothing there that sounds easy enough. if producing some pasta goes through a process as meticulous as this, then it is better to buy the ones available at the grocery store. anyway, that's how i have always been securing all types of noodles that i may need anytime.

i have never tried doing my own pasta at home. even among my children, no one knows how to do it either. you are lucky that you have a son who knows how to make crab raviolis. i figure that these raviolis really taste that good as you have desribed it here. hmmmm...delicious crab raviolis, i might as well look for some ways to learn about this one.

I used to make my own pasta. I attempted, yes I was that bad, to make ravioli with meat sauce, but that was years ago and I also made noodles for chicken soup when we used to have our kitchen table. We have a small kitchen and a medium sized dining room,so we put some counters in and lowered the cupboards so there is no room for the pasta maker. If I can find a place to put my pasta maker without it getting in the way, maybe I will try it again.

Yes, I do make it but not as often as I used to. I used to make it at least once a month, now I only make it twice a year maybe. I make the dough and I have a pasta rolling and cutting machine which makes that part fast and easy. I think I'd go crazy if I had to roll it out and cut it by hand. I can remember going to my gramma's house when I was a kid and she'd have sheets of rolled pasta laying around on towels drying out that she rolled by hand. I love homemade pasta. It's so much better than the dried up stuff from the store.

I use to make my own pasta, but now don't have a lot of time to spend in the kitchen. When I was a child, my father made all the pasta, as his father had taught him how to make it. My children had no interest in making homemade pasta and both of them rarely cook.
