Military Children

My son is 2yrs old, and my husband has been away quite often. We have pictures all over the place of "daddy". My mom made my son special" daddy " blankies to carry around and sleep with and she made my husband a teddy bear with the face being a picture of our son.I would stay up all hours of the night hoping to get a phone call or being able to call over there, most of the time the phones were out or he was out flying a mission and I didn't know when he would get back, but that one phone call a week was worth it.......

My dad was stationed in Korea for 2 years when I was growing up. My mom kept a picture of him where I could see him and played casette tapes he recorded.

I always put a picture of him by their beds. I also make them a daddy pillow. I take a pt shirt for both of them sew the bottom, and arm holes up stuff it through the top and sew that up. They can sleep with it, hold while watching t.v. or whatever they want. Whenever they are really missing him they can just give it a big hug. We have been through 6 months of BCT and 2 deployments and I think this has really helped them through it. We also write letters and send pictures to him all the time and they love picking things out to put in the care package for him ( this helps him too nothing puts a smile on my husbands face over there like knowing the barbie in the box was specially picked out by our 5 yr old just for him lol).
