What are the pros and cons of adopting a family for Christmas? I am not rich by all means but was wondering what you all thought about adopting a family at Christmas to spread the joy of giving and in hopes that you can teach your children the true meaning of the holiday. My daughter was brought up to give and not to receive but know I see that she buys my grandson every toy or gadget that comes out. Did I do something wrong in teaching her this way? We used to adopt a family and go shopping every year and now that she has moved out on her own with my grandson she thinks that he needs everything. I thought I was doing good in teaching her this way but as it turned out I just made it so that it was like I deprived her of having things that she would have liked to have. Do you think that is the case? hugs

Teaching your children to give is very important. My daughter is 4 and she loves to give her toys away, sometimes i have to say no, because she tries to give away presents that were given to her! Xmas is about togetherness and giving, it's not about presents. Too many families are into the material side of xmas, and that's what most kids learn, it's sad, very sad. I need to discipline myself when it comes to giving my child too many things she doesn't need. Good post! Cheers, Niki

Thank You Niki I was hoping someone was doing the same thing that I did when my daughter was growing up. She is now 23 with a son of her own. Even though she has very little she still takes time and donates when she can. She even got a job at goodwill so she could be of a good help. I guess it all boils down to what was of the teachings when growing up. thanks for the post and keep up the true meaning of Christmas. hugs
