Dreams - is there a meaning to it?

Hello there. Personally, I feel that there's no meaning to dreams. Dreams are just a reflection of our subconscious thinking. However, recently a conversation between my friend's mother and me makes me think otherwise. She believes that dreams have a meaning. She can interpret her dreams quite accurately. She can usually predict what's going to happen accurately. She told me if a person dreams of a snake chasing after him/her, it means someone is going to chase after him/her.
What's your take on this?

Yes I do think ther's some point in ur moms statement,Dreams are associated with ur life in many ways, sometime it consists of ur past, sometimes ur present & even some times wid ur future.
If U hav experienced something which is very spectacular or something filled with gr* joy or wid something very upseeting wid U,then it's possible it can come in ur dream,
even sometime it happens as to make U remeber something frm ur past, which waz so depressing & shocking that U hav forgot everything about it,in dreams it comes in the form of "repressed memories".
sometime U generally see about the present situations which is going in ur life.
& many time during sleep ur brain try to predict about the future asspects or about the manner u should carry a work,at dat time U watch about ur future but generally when U get up U forget what U hav dreamt & imagines when that particular event takes place in ur real life.

I also believe that dreams have meanings in your life.
Everyone will dream every night. Some people say that "last night, I didn't have a dream." They did. But most people will forget their dreams as soon as they wake up.
I believe that the dreams you remember and the ones that matter most and mean something to you and your future, past or present.
Thats not always the case though; some dreams are based on things which have been or are you on mind alot at the time or before falling asleep. These dreams are sometimes easily related to things you know you've been thinking about or maybe things that you want, need, (dreams of the present) or something that has happened to you lately (dreams of your past.)
So it all links up together really.
But yes, dreams are weird. You really should look out for the dreams your remember. Its always good to jot down your dreams in a dream diary. I try to but I always forget to. Lol.

Well I donot believe in either god or superstitions, still something inside me makes me believing in dreams, they are not always true but sometimes they are , they can show you the future in one way or the other, but the fact is that most people donot remember their dreams , and same is the case with me
well one important fact is that dream can be controlled by you , you can watch what you want, this has been proved , its only that while dreaming you really need to know that you are dreaming and 80% work is done

I am not sure if i can control my dream. I have dreamt of myself dreaming before. I just fell asleep and I could feel myself dreaming. I tried to wake up from the dream but I could not. After much struggle, I finally 'woke up' form the dream. However, to my horror, i realised I was still dreaming. It was quite a horrible experience for me and I feel I had no control of it.
Anyway, thanks for your posting. =D

You both are right when you say that dreams are a reflection of your subconscious. It reflects the deepest recesses of your being. It also reflect your present psychological state. Like me, I get illogical, disturbed, conflicting dreams when I'm stressed.
Your mother is also right as there are predictive / interpretative dreams. There are people who are highly intuitive when awake and others when they are asleep.

Hi PoohGal,
Just the other morning my dreams interacted with reality, let me see if I can explain this to make sense! lol
My husband races horses, sometimes he doesnt get back from races til about 4 or 5am. I cant really distinguish if me hearing him pulling in the drive was part of my dream or not, I heard it in what seemed like an awake state, but it was also part of my dream.
Reality: The next thing to happen is that he comes in the room and says baby Im home, Im not trying to scare you. Because I will jump up or scream or something lol even though I am expecting him before I go to bed. I remember him saying this, and he kissed me then he went off to take a shower before coming to bed. I went back to sleep.
Dream: So my dream continues as soon as I fall back asleep; I get out of bed & go to the kitchen. He has his overnight bag full of Harley Davidson clothes. All kinds of sweat shirts, t shirts, thermal shirts you name it. Im asking him what on earth did he do buy the whole store? I return to the bed room and I realise the blinds are open in the living room so I go back in to close them and I see one of the guys he works with getting out of the truck. I ask him what hes doing and he tells me hes coming in for a bit. I say alright and go back to the bedroom to go to sleep.
Now back to reality, hes standing next to the bed getting ready to get in, hes taken his shower and everything and I sit up on my elbow and say "Well that dont make no sense to invite him in and then leave him out there" and then I go right back to sleep.
I awake again just a few minutes later and my hubby is laughing at me, asking me who is he leaving out there and why doesnt it make any sense? lol Im confused, since it takes a moment or two for your dreams to register once your awake, but I start to peice it all together and tell him about it.
I told him about my dream and how I had thought I heard him backing up the driveway with the music sort of loud because I could hear it, he said I did back-up in the driveway and I did have the music up they were playing such n such song. lol So that creeped me out right there, was I dreaming that or was I really hearing it and it impacted what I was going to dream about once I did fall asleep? Ive never been known to talk in my sleep either.
So I cant help but think that there is MUCH meaning to your dreams and that outside influences, things that you have experienced or will experience will happen in them.
Such a mystery really, many have their idea of what dreams are and how they reprsent things and others have their ideas that they are nothing, just our conscious at play while in an REM state of sleep.
Bay xx

It's about i'm on top of a Mrt train and it suddenly move off very fast.. i tried to hold on till i cant and i eventually land on the soft grass, but i survived.. This is such a difficult question to answer. Undoubtedly many dreams are rubbish, and indeed are a mere reflection of one's subconscious. However in saying this, as a Christian, I do on occasions get what I refer to as spiritual dreams. Many of these are prophetic in nature and I have to say in all honesty that I have already found some of the prophetic has already come into play, especially the prophetic abouts other people. Another dimension can also come into play. That is the devil getting into our dreams and giving us fear. Fear is a dark place where we develop our negatives, and these are the dreams we should try to quickly put out of our mind.

I agree with you. The devil is also trying to instill fear in us in many different ways. It's very highly possible that he is doing it through dreams. We must always be vigilant and faithful to God so that we will not fall into devil's trap.
Thanks for your comment. =D

I don't know. I think anything is possible. However, I don't really think that all dreams have a meaning. Maybe some of them but not all of them. I believe that if they do have a meaning, you'll know. It'll come to you. That's usually what happens to me.

yes. there are meanings to our dreams.
i know that there are alote of things that we can not handle in our real life, and there are alote of fears,
and we do always feel like we have to go on and be strong, and there are alote of times that we do not get out those feelings, or do not know how to get those feelings out.
So we view them and solve them in our dreams.

Yes, I think they do have meaning. Some are just nonsense, but most of mine have some meaning. I'm not trained in dream interpretation, but I feel I am pretty good at interpreting dreams nonetheless.

I am not a person who dreams but whnevr I do it is coming to pass. I was also told that its a figment of your subconscious but to me it is one way that God reveals things to me. I am still and therefore He is able to speak to me. Call it what you may I believe that dreams are one way in which God speaks to his people. The Bible says" the old men shall dream drems and the youngmen shall see visions". So is that a figment of the subsconsious I think not.
They are real and they do come through atleast for me!

I believe some dreams have especial meaning but not all.In China many people especially the old. They think different dreams can indicate different things that will happen. And there are many kinds of books to describe the meaning of dreams .Sometimes I believe it and I also be calm with this saying.

I believe dreams has meanings. Some are fortunate that their dreams has some advance warning to people around and can be able to tell what will happen. Dreams are one of the way of God's communication instrument to people, if you were a christian and if will remember that God send messages in dreams. One of the most popular example is the dream of Joseph who become the prince of Egypt later on.
In my personal experience, my dreams has meanings, some are due to my subconsciousness but some are things which will happen to me in the future but sad to say it is hard for me to interpret those significant dreams in advance and just let it understand when something already happen.

Hello there. I am a Christian. However, so far my dreams do not make much sense. I usually dreams of very ridiculous things that will never happen. :P
Maybe I am not wise enough to know what my dreams mean. Actually, most of the time I can't remember my dreams by the time I wake up.
Thanks for your response.
