Have you ever heard of Hyperemesis?

Hyperemesis Gravidarium literaly translates to excessive vomiting during pregnancy but it is really so much more than that. It is a rare, life threatening pregnancy disease that destroys lives, families and finances. Severe cases require hospitalization, medication and IVs nutrition. Many of these become malnurished and begin starving to death. It is not a mental problem but a real medical condition. It is often overlooked by medical professionals. The only national coverage of this disease was on the Dr. Phil show in the spring of 2007.
Have you ever suffered from HG or do you know someone who has?

Yes, it is miserable and very few people really understand it. Right now there is a genetic research study going on to help find the cause and cure but that may be years off.

It's good that they're working on it. Glad to see that someone cares.

I am a 3 time survivor of HG. With my first pregnancy I had no idea what was happening to me - even after I was diagnosed - I still had no idea. The second time around I thought it wouldn't happen again but it did. The last time I knew what to expect and it hit me harder than with the first two. Saying that it is overlooked is an understatement. It wasn't overlooked by my doctors but by friends and "outsiders" - they kept saying yeah, morning sickness.....people have no idea unless you've been through it the toll it takes on your life and your family's life. I will never be the same because of it. The toll it takes cannot be easily undone. I fought like hell though to deliver 3 healthy babies. They are still not sure of the longterm effect on the children and/or the mothers who suffered from HG. Check out Helpher.org for more information on HG. I am also a volunteer in my area for sufferers of HG. HG also brought on a lot of other problems in my pregnancy too. I did watch Dr. Phil's show and the survivors of HG were asked to go if we could but it isn't filmed by me and I didn't want to incur the expense of traveling to be in the audience. If anyone is suffering from it, please reach out to me - I understand....I can help you through it.

Thanks for commenting. I had meant to mention helpher.org but guess I missed it when I got typing. I've been through the same hell as you. Support from someone who's been there is the only thing that helps some days.
