I lost my Dad because of the big C. He fought for 20 months but sadly, he didn't win the fight. It's been seven years since he died but I still miss me. I don't think I could ever not miss him. I have been trying to live a healthy life now, but sometimes food just becomes too irresistible and exercise too tiring. How are you fighting the fight against the big C?

I'm sorry to hear about your Dad. I lost my Mom 3 years ago to cancer and just had a scare myself. It is hard to live a healthy life, I love food and especially all those yummy chocolates, cakes and cookies but one has to be sensible. I tried to stop eating sweets all together, my brother has diabetes and that is another worry. But I found it hard so I try to do things in moderation. Recently I have been wanting ice cream so I bought some for the kids and got to have taste from each kid, that was enough to satisfy my longing for ice cream. As for exercise just do a little at a time. We are told to do 30mins to one hour a day. I don't know about you but if I want to exercise that much I would have to get up very early and giving up my sleep is out of the question. So I work it into my day. 10 mins here and there. Most days I watch the evening news and use an exercise bike at the same time or go for a walk with the kids. Just keep adding new things, try some sport or just try parking a few more spaces away from the supermarket or store entrance when shopping. This summer has been very hot here in Japan so walking outside has been impossible, so when I go shopping I walk up and down all the ailses. Hubby thinks I'm crazy but every bit helps. Take care of yourself!!

Thanks. You also take good care of yourself. Diabetes, yes that is another story. My mother has it and all her siblings have it. So, I too am very careful with sweets. I have given up chocolate for over 3 years now and my coffee never has sugar in it since about 2 months ago...i still love it. :) I wish I really had the time, what with law school and work, I barely have the time to sleep. But I will have to find time to exercise, now!

Thanks. Diabetes, yes, that is a different story too. My mother has it and all her siblings have it too. SO I am careful with sweets and carbs. I have given up chocolate about three years ago. My coffee nowadays no longer comes with sugar. I still love it. :) I really wish I had the time to exercise. What with law school and work, I barely have time to exercise. Thanks. It's been seven years and I still miss him. But not in depressing way. Every time I think of him, he still makes me smile. I guess that's why I miss him. But I'm ok. :) Thanks again. :)

Sorry about your dad. Surely its a great loss but you should learn something from that. I am sure if your dad was alive he wont want the same thing for you. He would want you to excercise and take care of your health.

thanks. yeah i know. i am trying. i just miss him. i guess we lost him when we weren't that ready. I was still at school that time and so was my siblings. but life has to move on right? I just wish that a cure for this disease is developed. but for now, exercise and healthy living are my only weapon against it. :)

I lost my mother 18 years ago. I've dealt with it long ago but I will always miss her. She had liver cancer. She smoked all her life but her lungs were clear. She drank, but not heavily. She was reasonably healthy. I think if you are going to get it, you are going to get it, no matter what you do. Of course, things like smoking do increase the risk, as do other things. I just take each day as it comes, live life to the full, cause you just never know.
