I also have a two-yrs old boy and has schedule when he likes to play outside, usually late afternoon after his nap. In your case, maybe you have to know what is something outside that he likes and bring it inside the house. Sometimes they understand if you explain to them what you want from them. My little boy would now say that he wants to go inside the house because there's plenty of mosquitoes outside.
