WINDOWS User? Why do you keep a clean DESKTOP?

I just cant hold myself back from trying to know what you guys think about one of my simple discoveries!!!
I keep a clean desktop.
I just have the default icons that comes with windows installation. I have been using my personal PC from 3 years and official PC from 4 years.
I have a clean desktop.
BUT, is it necessary? . . . I mean what are desktops for.?? haveing all the icons of the applications that you use if i am not wrong. So what is it that drives me to keep a clean desktop?

yes, it is necessary to clean the desktop, i am computer hardware eng. and doing this business from last 6 years,
as my experience, if your desktop is full with icons than your system will slow down. because when you go to desktop every time all icons on desktop have to load so at that time your machine work slow, even if you put background on desktop that time also your pc goes slow down. so never put background and never full you desktop with too many icons.
