You're Privacy May Be In Jeopardy Because Of Google

After the recent weird email I had gotten, and this is another discussion, and from getting an email from a friend of mine who had a warning about privacy issues, I decided to pass this information on to you folks. Now, I've actually have known about this for awhile, and at the time, in a way, I thought it was shall we say, "cute"?? But like I said after getting that weird email mail with a "business" proposition, I began to think, not only is mine but anyone's privacy in jeopardy. In the email from my friend, a fellow MyLotter, Katlady, she informed me, that anyone, but anyone, including the sickos that are out there in the world can find out information on you whether you knew it or not. Here's how it works..... If you go to Google and type in your phone number, chances are very likely and good, that it will not only show up your name, and address, but geez...it can provide a map of exactly where you live! It all but points arrows to where you are..Now I don't know about you, but that kind of gives me the creeps...So I found out, that you can actually have your listing, including the detailed mapped listing of where you are removed, and boy, I raced over and did just that...I also removed my phone number listing in the other sites, like Whitepages.com So if any of you just think it's a bit creepy, to have you exact location of where you are displayed for just anyone I suggest you do the same--of course if you have a private or unlisted number you probably won't have to worry..but for the rest of us, who like our privacy..I suggest you unlist your number as well.

Gee Pyewacket, thanks a lot for bringing this to our attention here :( and you so right about the risks all of us have with the private infos displayed online. After all - it wasn't us requesting it, and according to me this should never have happened to begin with. Organisations and busin esses should be more aware of the risks we all are having due to having our private infos displayed online without our concense. hmmm, this is bad, very bad indeed :( TheFortunes

Yes my friend, this is worth considering it, defnitely. I would be part of it when enough people gather so that we can make some impact, and hopefully change how things are now in regards to privacy info :) TheFortunes

Pye, I don't see where someone having a phone number makes a difference. I don't know your number so how could I be locating you. There are millions of phone numbers in the white pages w/ addresses but how does that effect your privacy?

Not even paying to have an unlisted number is safe anymore- from what I have heard if someone is dilligent enough they can still find you! Besides having children, which in itself is a legitmate concern for having this info public, I have a schizophrenic father which is a HUGE concern! He doesn't know where I live but he does know my phone number and if there ever were a time that he would feel I was in impending danger or a threat to his security or anything sililar he could easily track me and my family down and do whatever it is he feels is necessary to protect me from these "dangers". In the case of someone with such a severe disorder that action could be much more serious than telling me to run from the house! When I was an infant he broke down my front door to my mom's apartment to try to steal me. He had decided that I needed to be rescued or something so he just kicked the door down in one fell swoop. When the police asked him about it he said it was already like that when he got there from the "bad guys". So not only is this information an invasion of privacy, it could be dangerous in some cases. It is getting easier and easier for the real bad guys to find you and your children and families and more and more difficult for us to protect ourselves from it all. If you want complete privacy you either have to pay a bucketload of money or cancel any and all services in which you have to use personally identifying information. Even opting to have your info removed from this list (which I did do!) I am sure there are so many other ways for people to find this stuff out if they really want to.

I know!!! And it's a shame that paying to make your number and address private just isn't enough anymore. People can still get those numbers if they know where to look!

Wow--you really do have legitimate concerns here...I think there are a lot of other people who wouldn't want to be tracked down by family members, or former boyfriends/girlfriends/spouses for the same reason

Thankfully I did not, the only thing I found was the address I have listed on my web store, but that's something I have to have up, and not to worried, since it's not my home address.

Wow I did know about this, but never really thought about it. I will be taking mesures to take care of this. I don't want everyone and his brother knowing all my info. But I guess once we get on the internet our lives really aren't our own anymore.

Honestly I like those options very much. They are a kind of service that helps me find friends long lost (like last year I tracked down a friend from 10 years ago), adresses I need to go to (used pretty often) and in case I lost phonenumbers or adresses on current friends. Im also very happy that they can do the same with me. A months time ago my old classmates where tracking down everyone from our class to invite them to a 10 year reunion.. I would have missed that if they hadnt been able to, since all I know from back then dont know me now, and my background.. parents old friends and such dont live where they did either. So yeah... its kewl that its possible to find ppl. Im not at all scared about bad people knowing it either. Chances that they are coming to get me, because of those sites is so slim its not calculated in %, but rather %s of %s %. And criminals using for anything but what we do? I honestly think thats even smaller.. if they wanna break into your house they dont visit the maps or phone registers to check out where you live, they go directly to your house and break in regardless of your info online.

Well I'm glad you can benefit as well as your friends about this kind of info in a positive way, but I just don't see it that way for me personally

You are absolutely right, pyewacket. I had never visited whitepages.com before, and I was shocked to find all of my information there. My telephone number is not even supposed to be listed! Thanks for the heads up.

I put in my number, and nothing at all came up. I guess I'm just really lucky. We don't have an unlisted number, and I don't remember ever having our number removed from there. Guess I'll just count my blessings! LOL

Did you ever hear of this website?...www.intelius.com...? You can find out any information you want about anybody, including SS#, DOB, Address, Telephone, etc., etc., etc.,.......you have to pay but from what it looks like, as long as you pay they'll tell you what you want to know. Now THAT'S scary.
