I also prefer gas. It's what I learned to cook on so I know how to control the heat just by looking at the size of the flame. Whenever I cook on electric I ruin all or part of what I've cooked and it's just not pretty at all. I like being able to turn the heat down or up by looking at the size of the flame and knowing that the pan is instantly heating or cooling instead of waiting for that coil thingie to react.
I do love the look of those smooth top ranges though. My brother has one at his house and it looks really nice and is easier to keep clean. Still, I'd rather cook on gas. They need to invent a stove where you can flip a lid open and use the gas burners and then close the lid to cover them up so it's a smooth surface.

Hi jillhill,
i prefer gas.because of many reasons.it is reliable and less expensive.we are getting subsidy on gas.so have to say only half of its.also its available in our place.if it no other expenses other than the electiic bill.that will always be an electric shock to up in my family.so we gaveup electric and changed to gas.

I prefer cooking using electricity coz its more convenient and find it very safe. Although its more expensive when using it compared to gas..=)

I love cooking on gas. Electric just seems to unpredictable. I thought I couldn't cook because I was constantly burning or under cooking food on the electric stove. But then I switched to a gas stove and suddenly started cooking really well. I'm back to an electric stove now so I only do simple things on the stove top. Most of my cooking is done in the oven or with a crockpot.

I prefer gas cooking to electric. I have had both and I found the electric was much harder to cook with. I also prefer gas heat as it is much warmer than electric.
I honestly think that it is cheaper to heat with gas too even with the price of gas these days. I know that my electric bill has been outrageous all summer and I am really tired of all of the high prices.

Dear Jillhill, We use gas for cooking. Gas in all respect very useful for cooking. Electricity use always has inherent danger.

I have both at home my oven and grill are electric and my stove is gas and I love it this way. I am now used to the electric oven and the way it cooks so I would not change it any time soon. I know exacly how long it takes me to do something. With the stove (gas) i love that as well because when I want to turn the temp down its it down in a second not the same case with most electric.

I grew up cooking on a gas stove. We now live in a home that is all electric, so I am stuck with an electric stove. I am getting used to it, but I still wish I had a gas stove. The only thing I like better about an electric stove is that there is no open flame.

I definately prefer gas. I hate cooking with electric. It's a pain and doesn't cook things well. With gas, you can control the heat a lot better (as well as visibly!) and it cools off faster. When using electric, it's harder to adjust the temperature. Not only that, it takes a long time to heat up and even longer to cool down, so if you're needing to reduce something to a simmer from a boil, you're better off using a different burner, lol!

I have cooked with both and for a time I did prefer electricity for some odd reason. I have no idea why. I now prefer gas. I moved into military housing here in NC and they have gas stoves. I have really begun to like it more than electricity. Your right, it does seem like less of a preheat time and I think there is much more control over the burners. I also think that it makes easier on baking as well. It doesn't burn on the bottom so easily as it would in electric cooking.

We have an electric stove in our house and a gas stove in our camper. I think I prefer cooking with electric. Probably because that is the type I learned to cook on first.

I prefer gas stoves...#1 because of the fast heat, the less time to cool, #2 when the electricity goes out...I can still use my burners by lighting them with a match. #3 It used to be that gas was cheaper...not so sure of that. I have always had gas so I am a little prejudice.

I think I would prefer to use gas for cooking. In my home country, normally people use gas to cook that's why I choose to use this gas, since I'm not use to cook with electricity.
