Making money online: What are the dos and don'ts - and why?

I'm a newbie in the making money online scenario. I'd like to learn the most I can in a short time so I won't fall for any scams out there in the cyberspace. These are words of wisdom from my mentor: DO: your own research of the business opportunity before sending ANYONE money. You can't be too much cautious when money is involved. DON'T: believe the hype pressed upon you -like limited time to sign up and such. If a company is REALLY good like it claims to be, it will survive for long-term investments.
