My daughter is almost nine and is the pickiest eater. How do I get her to try new things and not just say no because of how it looks? Any advise would be greatly welcomed!!

I am a picky eater. Don't have one. Well, My cat is but that doesn't count. I was always a picky eater though. Still am. I'd say that you could try to make things look better for her. figure out what it is that she doesn't like.. and work around that. I survived being picky and as I got older I learned to try new things. maybe you should just let her try things on her own time.

No problem. A huge part of my childhood I spent eating mostly cereal for breakfast lunch and dinner. But my parents are always amazed now a days that I eat more things than I did before. I'm still really picky, but I think you just need to let kids make those choices.

Hello Rose, We also have a rather particular eater in our house. My oldest daughter (a few months short of turning nine years old) is very particular about her food choices. The frustrating thing is that her choices don't stay the same either. One week she might like something, the next she's decided she doesn't. She has been "brand" picky since before she could talk - regarding taste, texture and appearance. Our pediatrician told her at her last appointment that she needed to try one bite of something new every day, just for fun. Since my daughter likes her doc, she said she would. That lasted for quite a while, but now she is saying she doesn't like anything but Grape Nuts cereal, PBJ sandwiches (white bread and smooth peanut butter only!), and a handful of other items. I say all that to say, you aren't alone...my pediatrician tells me it will change as she gets older, but I have my doubts. We do keep her on organic whole milk since that's a good source of protein for her. You might try the "one bite" concept and then see if that works. We also remove any sweets from the equation for our daughter unless she eats a healthy meal. Dessert is a privilege, not a given in our house now. (Whew, that's tough for us chocolate lovers!!) I'll be interested to see what others say on this topic since it is one that is near and dear to my heart and has been for years. I worry a lot about my girl...I want her to be strong and healthy.
