How to keep a doggie?

I want to keep a doggie,but I've never had a canine before. I hope my doggie will be a healthy and happy one,are there any dos and don'ts?

Hi,
I had a small doggie named milky. She was pomarian very cute and some one i still miss. I think you have to choose the big with the small ones.
There are so many to choose, the do's and dont's of keeping a dog are:
1) The first formost thing is never beat your dog.
2) Be quiet and calm with the dog and always let the dog exersixe.
3) Dont make the dog lazy.
4) Dont let the dog eat junk foods.
5) And lastly give the dog lot of love.
