I loved this movie. I think it appeals to a part of me that idealises what it would be like to live a rustic existance, at a time when soceity was simpler and more innocent. Bryce Dallas Howard is captivating as Ivy the blind heroine. I'd rent anything she was in, after seeing her in this. She's fascinating to watch, fragile but self assured. The ending didnt disappoint me at all. The only thing that bothered me about the film was the characterisaton of Noah - portrayed as having learning disabilities/mental health issues, (played by Adrian Brodie). Its all too easy to rely on the movie stereotype of the disabled character being dangerous in some way. You could say this was counterbalanced by the heroine being a blind woman, though this too relies on a film stereotype of a sort too; Ivy is perceived in the film to be exceptonally insightful and wise, as though there is something mysterious and supernatural about her.

I agree, it's very good and mysterious! Most of his movies are, don't you agree?
