University of the Philippines Los BaƱos (UPLB) or elbi for short is one of the best schools not only in the Philippines but also in Asia. This very institution which served as a temporary home for the best students all over the Philippines may have also been the home of the best "carinderias" or the restaurants which offers the best student meals in the province. Top of my list is the "bat cave". There are other carinderias in the area but where else can you eat the best "lechong kawali" (deep fried pork meat)or the best fried chicken, which is tastier than the chicken served at McDonalds and Jollibee? Ofcourse, the "bat cave". Why is it called the "bat cave"? Well, when I first heard it, I expected it to be located in a cave or something (forgive me, I was a naive freshman then) but it was a regular two-storey house in one of the subdivisions along grove. The best explanation given to me by the upper classmen was that the wife of the owner looked like penguin. For those people who are not familiar with the comics hero Batman, Peguin is one of Batman's first ever nemesis. Have you heard any explanation why it's called the "bat cave"? Do you have similar hang-out places in your school?

I'm from UP Manila. Yep...we have our batcave, too. Its between the NIH building and the College of Nursing. My kabarkada caught two of our classmates doing something fishy there, too. Hehe... I don't know why they called it batcave, but maybe because it's a dark archway, I would see a bat or two flying about that location.... I just accepted its name. I've been to LB with some friends, I LOVE the yoghurt and chocolate milk you could buy there.;p

There's a jeepney terminal near the Caltex station in LB (the one fronting Olivarez Plaza). Just look for the jeepneys bound to Jamboree, then, ask the driver to take you to pook. It's better if there'll be lots of you guys, given that you would just commute... ahmm, when you're riding your car on the other hand, i guess, that makes it problematic hehehe. If you're familiar with the Jamboree that would going to the UPCO route. :)

yo ira!! you're studying at UPLB?? la lang. im from LB. ^__^ i studied at UP in the visayas, at miagao, iloilo to be exact. our favorite hang out then was a videoke bar with billiards hall called "OMPS". shamingly, i dont know why it was called that way. LOL but it was part of our memories, we had singing and drinking days there, playing billiards days and goofing around days. ^__^;; we sometimes stayed up so late there until we were the last customers. its a favorite hang-out for UP miagao students because its very accessible, just outside the campus and could be walking distance. ^__^ that's where i learned to make shots at the billiard table and make the balls flying away. LOL

I studied in UPLB and left the university in 2003. We have the same type of hang-out here in uplb, its IC's. Bat cave is more of a "walang pera" type of a hang out. But if we are in the mood to drink and unwind, and we have the money to spend for it, we go to IC's. We have another billiard hall in LB. It was a former theater/cinema located outside the campus and the owner decided to rebuild the area as a hang-out place instead. I remember the first time I watched a movie there, I saw a rat as big as cat. Hahaha... that experience was priceless.

uhmmm... an upperclassman said the very reason why it was called batcave was the fact you have to really get out of your way going there... something like that... guess what, my first batcave experience was not that pleasant i slipped i guess with soup... eekkk.!
