Have you ever felt hopeless?

Happy moment - Me, myself and I

I quit my job due to bad working conditions few months ago. Since I am not working at the moment, I feel so useless and hopeless. I have gone to many job interviews and I was rejected. I really feel disappointed and I am starting to loose my interest in continuing the interview thing... I am even close to quiting all the effords of finding a job. My interest for my subject (Multimedia Design) is about to collapse! I am thinking of changing a career, yet I am not sure what else could I do for living. It's so frustrating and it's a jungle out there. I just wanted to share my feelings. Any advice?

My first advice would be, don't ever quit one job until you have found a new one. You are always more attractive to an employer, while you are employed. Did you speak to someone about the working conditions? Was anything done to try to fix things? I would say that if you enjoy the field that you are in, stay that. Isn't that one of the hottest careers around these days? If you really want to change careers, make sure that it is something that you enjoy doing.

I spoke about the bad conditions but no one cared. I couldn't stay any longer because the stress was killing me. This is indeed one of the hottest careers, but not where I live (Cyprus).

Getting too much emotional and worrying negative things are main leads for depression

Unemployment is so stressful! I have friends who are job hunting, and my husband is job hunting as well. They find it very demoralizing.

Sounds to me like you have encountered what us 'old' people call a 'Crossroad'. Suffering from depression makes every change more challenging. I too, quit my job about 7 months ago -- after over 22 years of service to one place! I am finding that believing in myself is the one thing I have going for me!! I'm doing all I can at the moment to get an on-line business going. Some days are good, other days are worse, others are better. You should begin by making a list of your life goals, what makes you happy, and things you are interested in. This will give you some insight into where this 'Crossroad' will take you. Hope this helps!!

You should not loose hope. The present conditions may be because of adverse planetory conditions. First of all you should decide if you like the present job, if yes, can you still improve your qaulifications. If you love your job you will definately do better in that job. May be present employer is not good. you should reassess how you did in last few interviews-what went wrong. I WOULD LIKE TO GET A REPLY

I don't have any advice; I can commiserate. It's so hard to find a job in some fields right now. Maybe you could take a break from your field and work in something that is related for a while, then maybe go back to it when the market picks up a bit. The economy is not great right now.

I worked for the TV station for 20 yrs. my boss constantly harassed me every day, I fellt so angry, and he wanted me to punch him so he could fire me. After thinking it over I decide to quit TV, although it took me 12 yrs to work for this station, I felt I was going to hurt some one, so I quit, I suffered from schzophrenia, and my Doctor told me to stay home. This was the end of my career in TV, so I went from interview to interview, 200, I took strange jobs, and wasn't happy, right now I am writing and trying to make a few coins on line. I would file for Social Security, it might be helpful.

"Quitter never win and winners never quit." It is my guiding principle everytime I felt useless and hopeless everytime i failed to get what I want. There is no harm in trying even it took you years before getting it. If that is really the kind of career you wanted, then don't stop till you succeed. But if you want to change career, better plan it first before persuing.

I believe that to begin with you have to think about what you want in life, do you like what you do? you are young , so you are a good time to change your career if that is what you want... And whenever you decide that, go for it... maybe you ned to go back to school, look for job... etc... Make sure you take the decision who makes you happy, it is all about that... if you are happy and smile to life, life is going to smile you back!

I am going to quit my job next week. Management in my company is not at all supportive, even they are working to irritate employees, no benefits for us.they are expecting 18-20 hours in 8 hours.I am not at all seeing any reason to being here in this company and simply destructing my career. Lets hope for the best and if I have talent , will get another one. As today there are lot many other companies too.

Have you ever considered working abroad? I mean if this is really making you feel bad, maybe you need a very big change. Ofcourse, if you have a family, that's another story. I just feel that you need not feel bad about your situation. Try to enjoy what you have at moment because once you start working again, you'll complain about having to work everyday and not having enough time for yourself or your family. Carpe Diem.
