do you plan your meals in advance? when you go to the grocery store do you carry a shopping list with you or do you just think it over as you shop. sometimes when we think it through during shopping we tend to get stuffs we really do not need as of the moment. and we tend to forget the more important stuffs. However, I am guilty of not planning meals in advance. I shop with my wife once a week and we just scan through the store and buy what we think we need. Having a one-week or more plan helps in several ways: grocery shopping lists can be very specific, menus can be checked readily for nutritional balance, food treats can be sprinkled throughout the week to avert impulse binges, and the plan can serve as a checklist. do you shop alone or with someone else? how often do you shop?

I try to plan my meals out but with my work schedule always changing, it makes it really hard for me to do that these days.

On a good weekend, I sit down and write out a meal plan for the coming week and then make a list of ingredients that we don't have on hand and also some extra treats that we like. I like to go to the grocery store myself, but occasionally my boyfriend comes to and that is good also, because then he usually pays for everything :) But when he comes, we usually leave with too many treats that I wouldn't normally buy like cookies.

Every Saturday morning, I take my mom grocery shopping. She always has a list. Sometimes I do and sometimes I've left it on the counter at home. I'm trying to eat as healthy as possible, even when considering any treats we have at home. I do a lot of cooking in the crock pot because I'm away from the house all day, so I do an inventory of the veggies, spices, soups, and canned tomatoes that I use before I head to the store, so I know what pantry items I need to purchase. Because it's just me and mom and we are not on a schedule or in a hurry, we go from aisle to aisle and take our time. We often discover new items that are tasty and if one of us tries it, we compare notes as to how we like it and if we would purchase it again. For example, mom likes mashed potatoes. She's a widow and it's not practical for her to purchase a large bag of potatoes. We've found the Bob Evans (real not dehydrated) mashed potatoes in the refrigerator case. She can portion it out and cook just what she needs. I keep a package in the frig too. That was one of our discoveries.

You're absolutely right. No matter how hectic our week is, Saturday is MOM day. We've always been close and talk at length every day on the phone. Our shopping time is just for us, our mother/daughter bonding time.

We are planning for our meals in advance. Me and my mom do the menu meal for the whole week. Then we do a list of all stuff that we need when we go to the grocery. I always go shop just by myself, so i make sure that I do not forget to bring the list with me. Yes having a list of the things that you need is big help, because you only buy the things that you really needs and also to your budget. Even when I go to the mall i have my list for me not to buy anything that not really neccesary.

I like to shop on my own. I only buy what I need and what will last for about two weeks. That way I save money,But if the store has a good sale then I will buy extra that way I will save even more the next time I shop. When my husband goes with me thats when we over spend. He has a strong sweet tooth that breaks the mold everytime lol

We carry a list. We are on a tight budget so we need to be certain that we are going to get what we need and nothing else.

budgetting indeed would put a constraint in a tight budget. in a tight budget a list would be necessary to take.

We plan our meals in advance. I write up a grocery list, down the side of it I write the days of the week and then fill in a meal for each day. If we need something to make that meal then I add it to the list. We shop every two weeks. We take our list with us but we usually end up adding extra stuff as we go along. My husband and I go together. Sometimes we end up taking our 3 small children with us, only if grammy can't watch them while we go.

Its my mom and dad who also go for regular shopping as far as grocery is concerned..i rarely go along with my mom and she never prepare any list as she just keeps in her mind as to buy whatever needed and she goes to market every two days..sometimes she does forget to get certain items and when is urgently needed we just buy in from the nearby store.. but when i go for shopping i always prepare a list of things and buy accordingly as i dont want to waste my time in spending for shopping for long hours..my shopping department is clothes section as iam the one who decide as to buy as per my home peoples choice..

Hi rouwel23! Yes, I do have a shopping list whenever I go to the grocery or the market because if I won't, I ended up buying more and at the same time buy things that I already have stacked at home. With a shopping list, I tend to stay within my budget. Take care and have a nice day.

I usually do planning what kind of meal that I will have in the night, or what snack that we can have for our lunch. Of course I will make my list for the grocery. Since I didn't go shopping every day, I normally do grocery for few days in advance. That's why I always have big list for my grocery shopping. So I'm not only plan the meals for a day but also for few days.

okay. does planning ahead in for a few days have any advantage over planning just for a day?

We get a paycheck twice a month. When payday comes I make a list of fifteen dinner meals for the time until the next payday. I make of list of every item I will need for those meals and then add on things we need for lunches and dinners. Before planning the meals I check what is on sale so I plan meals that will have cheaper costs. I only buy what is on the list and we have everything we will need. Before I did this I would often run to the store daily and spend lots of money on junk and expensive meals. Using a list really helps my budget and makes each day easier since I have a menu list to choose from.

If I am going to cook dinner alot that week. I make a list of what we will have and what I need to buy to make it. We alway have a list on the fridge of the things we need. I have to say though if i see a good deal I will go for it. I am not too much of an impluse buyer but I do like to get something I use often on sale if I can get it even if I don't need it at the moment.

I work from home, home school my daughter, and have health problems. Yes! I have to be very organized. I have a layout of all the isles in our local store, a price list of everything we use, and nutritional menus laid out that I rotate by the month. Twice a month I'll go out during the wee hours between 2 and 4am depending on what shift my husband is working and zip through the store with 2wks of groceries. No more wasting money or my energy roaming aimlessly around, except for when they move things..Grr I hate that!

so when they move things as you have a layout of all the isles, you would not know where your former things where. and your energy would truly be wasted as you roam aimlessly. good for you to be very organized in your buying of groceries.
