i never knew about this until recently my brother brought home a full dvd collection of this movie. all of what i missed when i watched it on the cinema was there. can you imagine? if you have watched the 2 hour movie, what you have missed if you watched the uncut version?

Yeah, the cinema version was less than 3 hours long, and they brought out a DVD that was the same. But I have all 3 special edition DVDs, and they are at least 4 hours long, and much better than the edited versions.

The version in the theaters was about 2 and a half hours, but that was only after a lot of carving out bits of the movie. I really prefer watching the 4 hour version, even though it takes a lot longer. The sad part, of course, is that they still had to take out a lot of the plot of the books just to get the movies down to 4 hours!

yeah. do you much prefer the book or the movie? because sometimes they edit a lot of stuff in the movie. just like in harry potter.

I did know that though I've never seen the directors cut. There is so much though they had to cut out that I could see why it was so long. I hope to see it though one day. I just wish they could have done that with the Harry Potter movies - made them exactly like the books. I would so have sat there in the theater that long to see it done right.

i have the full copy of the trilogy. I can't believe then that it was really 4 hours. It's so surprising that you are able to see what you haven't seen in the cinema. I have watched the trilogy several times so i was able to notice what was not included to the cinema version. That is why when you watch the cinema version, you came upon lots of questions. "What happened to Saruman in the 3rd part?", "did he escape?", "did he turned to something?". well i won't tell it here... private message me if you would like to know.
