The Best Art Community on the Net, or the Worst Thing to Ever Happen to Art?

DeviantART has been around for some time now. It has millions of members who submit their artwork to get viewed by their peers on the site. I am a member there currently, and I have to say that I enjoy it. But it got me thinking, is DA really all that great to the art world? It use to take months of work to get your painting seen, now it takes a few clicks in Photoshop and people think you are a God. There is tons of image 'Ripping', or stealing, that goes on there making everyone who shows some talent a suspect to being a thief. On the Internet, one cannot be sure about anyone.
So, what is your view on DA and on sites like it in general. Do they really help us?

I think one of the biggest problems for artists is lack of publicity. The more people you can get to see your work, the better, for the most part. Whatever facilitates that process should be encouraged. Piracy should of course be monitored, however.
