Would you trust them and be comfortable enough to open up about life and sharing your thoughts and feelings with them or would you hold back on some stuff thats way tooo personal for anyone to know about?Would/do you feel comfortable around them?I dont like someone picking into my life and telling me what they thought stuff meant and why.I never went to one and dont plan on it either, but you never know.lol.How do you feel about this?

I think I'll trust them with my little secrets, simply 'coz I'm curious as to their interpretation of my little secrets. I've always been fascinated about psychology and I wanna know how psychologists would say about me. I'll let them probe into the deepest parts inside me he he he he he...

I would feel uncomfortable telling a psychiatrist EVERYTHING. There are some parts of our lives that should not be an open book for people, even when they are trying to help. I'm one of those people that tells as much information that I believe they need to get the general idea. Also, if I believe that something is totally irrelavent to an issue I wouldn't talk about it. I've never had to go to a psychiatrist, but I'm sure they have enough tricks of their own to get information out of people that they really don't need to know every single detail.

It's their job, so I don't seem any reason why I shouldn't put my truest on them. Not unless they try to share to their colleagues or in public, those things I've shared and issues consulted tot hem!LoL But I really don;t have that much money to spend for them, so I just do my best to read and learn from other informations that would help me deal with my personal problems/worry for free!;) I sometimes draw wisdom from my friends and family also, because they are the ones who really knew me as a person inside-out..

Withdrawing information from the psychiatrist will be defeating the purpose. HOwever if a person doesn't feel comfortable with the one that they are seeing, they should either find or ask for another one. Some with a counselor or a psychologist. They are there to help but have no crystal ball. They go by what you tell them, if you don't tell them anything.. what can they learn about you to help? I know a lot of people have trouble talking to a counselor or psychiatrist because they feel they are being invaded somehow, but they can be quite helpful. They don't necessarily pick into people's lives and tell you what they think stuff mean, Actually most of the time they are not there to give answers, they are there to help people think and find the answers themselves. It just one of those things that you never know until you are there, and for some people it can help for others it might not help that much- specially if they're resisting.

Nope... I wouldn't go to one in the first place. All they do is sit there and take there notes and then form opinions based on what you say. I took a semester of psychology in school, and the two things I remember are... 1. Every individual is unique... 2. Psychology is an inexact science. If we are all unique, then they can't quantify us to begin with, because there is no norm for us to fit into. If Psychology is an inexact science, then they are only guessing and forming opinions on those guesses at best. Given these basic examples, why would anyone pay any attention to what these quacks said in the first place?

No way! If a police officer or a detective ask them about it they will spill the beans. They write down everything you say. I wouldn't do that. I think it is all mind games.

Hi spiderlizard,i feel the same as you:)

i had a interesting childhood, and was advised to have counsiling. I went and couldn't open up at all, so never went back. Then years later i was sent again, this time my relationship was breaking down and i was losing my home, that wasn't what i went for, but thats all i went on about lol she was a good sounding off post. I dealt with my issuses myself and did not want some complete stranger trying to probe things out of me whilst clock watching to make sure i didn't go over my time. We all have issuses, therapy may be just the ticket for some, but it isn't for me.
