What is the best way to keep yourself awake on a graveyard shift? I am not much of a coffee drinker and it is hard to say that we have the liberty to choose what to do to keep ourselves awake. We have restrictions and it is not good for us to be seen dosing off.
For those who are successful in keeping themselves awake on a graveyard shift, please share your ideas.

I have encountered a few of mylotters here who are call center agents and they were discussing something like this, about what to take during graveyard shifts. Aside from coffee, they made mention of energy drinks as alternatives which are indeed stimulants because most energy drinks are carbonated drinks that contain large amounts of caffeine and sugar with additional ingredients, such as B vitamins, amino acids (e.g. taurine), and herbal stimulants such as guarana. These drinks I believe will really keep yourself awake all night. Examples are Lipovitan, Redbull, XS, amp and many more.

That's true, I've tried drinking the energy drink every now and then, when I'm extremely tired or if I haven't had enough sleep. Is it alright to drink these energy drinks everyday? One effect I've noticed is that it keeps me awake until late in the morning even after my graveyard shift and I end up sleeping late, and feeling restless when it's time to go to work. The body works in mysterious ways!

the general rule says that anything which is in excess is not good for the health. drink only when necessary or as the need arises.

You're really knowledgeable, thank you for your input! It makes me think twice of what to take is best fit to my needs. I'll find other ways besides drinking anything. If you have other tips that would be great!

I just got caught sleeping last week at work. I haven't gotten my punishment yet.
Anyway, I guess I'm not a good one to give advice on how to stay awake.

Maybe anticipating what sanction they will give will probably keep you awake in the meantime. (^_^) My colleague was also reprimanded for sleeping last week also. Maybe getting your officemates cooperation of warning you to stay awake when you are about to dose might help. I've asked for my close friends/colleagues to do this for me.

I think I know who this colleague that got reprimanded c",)
Having loads of work to do with strict deadlines will help keep the adrenalin flowing. They also say that eating an apple would also keep you awake but would definitely give you constipation. LOL!

Hey there fortunebee! I am a nocturnal person which simply means that I am more energetic during the nighttime compared to daytime. This kind of habit didn't come in an instant. Actually, it took me so long be a night person. It started when I was in college. I am the type of student who could not study well if it is very noisy. So what I did was sleep during the daytime right after my class and wake up at around ten o'clock in the evening to start my tasks. First and foremost, I take my dinner then drink some glasses of water. Relax for a few minutes and then take a bath to have a very fresh mind. I am not a coffee person, so instead of drinking coffee, I tried drinking milk or any chocolate drink. But if there are not available, I just simply drink some glasses of water as a substitute. And it worked out. Until now, I am seldom sleepy during the night.
