Most that I know, are not pirating music, movies, software, etc. They get it to see if they like it. Some companys don't allow you a trial copy, so consumers have to get a copy to see if it's worth the price tag. And if they do like it and think its worth the money they do purchase.
Some of these companys try to mislead the courts into thinking they are loosing money. Its there way to scare people into not getting illegal copies, So they can make more money for an overpriced product to begin with.
The companys want us to believe that if someone gets a pirated copy, they loose a sale, so they loose money, but most times they would have never got that sale anyway. So how are they loosing money???
Solution: Lower the prices, give out samples, trials, etc. Your sales will go up.

I think when there is excess of money and luxury by artists and actors, what would they expect? Us giving them even more money? I wouldn't feel guilty to steal them earnings, especially if CDs and DVDs are overpriced.
I sometimes download movies, but old ones, those I've already watched on tv and I know I like them, to watch them in english (I'm italian) - they have already gained much. I think who downloads large quantities of the most recent movies, maybe without knowing their genre, is wrong because they're responding with an excess of 'stealing' to the excess of money of the actors.

I agree with you about the price of dvd and movie tickets, but I think that the companies spent money to make movies and they have the right to charge for seeing them; now that prices are too high people could decide to not watching them, so that they would lower the prices; instead people download the movies from the net and they decide to stop this; if they reach their goal, in the future we won't be able to share any files, neither legal files.
I hope you didn't get my words as an offense, in that case I'm sorry, I wouldn't name anyone 'stealer', it's the actual law that tells that...

I really think it is wrong to download a movie, burn it on dvd and sell it. But i usually only watch my downloaded movies by myself and on my computer (15in. screen). I do not have $15 to go see each movie at the theater or $20 to buy each dvd.

I don't share pirated stuff only download it off the net. I grew up buying bootleg cd i never bought a real cd out of a store. Well correction i did buy one real cd it was what was suppose to be master p's last cd. After i bought it here about 8 years later i'm 19 and he's still putting out cds ...lol. I also download movies and everything else I am in college so i don't have the money to spend on cds and movies even if i wanted to. I have however bought books to learn programming but that is only because it os gonna land me a 6 figure job.

i personally dont understand why its illegal. Isnt it the same as if i were to record a song off the radio like we use to do back in the 80's or so? i like to hear the songs ont the entire CD first before buying it. 15 bucks for a CD is a lot when you only like 1 or two songs.... buying the single is like 3 bucks too a ripoff.

If you pay for an entire CD when only 1 song is worth paying for, isnt that almost like stealing from the customer. If a movie is crap isnt that money paid worthless. I think that although you are receiving a product in some cases pirating is justifiable because it gives you a preview of what you are getting. For example, if I like songs in a CD I will go and buy the CD.

I have mixed emotions about it right now. Basically I think it's wrong, but I think those truly responsible should be prosecuted, not those caught in the middle.
My former employer, that illegally fired me, is suing a former computer technician that they hired to do work on their computers. The technician supposedly put some pirated copies of microsoft products on the computers. They are now trying to prosecute this guy for doing so. They are expecting me to go to court and testify against the guy (I will be their primary witness evidently). I'm probably going to have trouble remembering a lot about it, as they have done things that were just as illegal to me. If the guy had charged them for the software, then I might understand what they are doing, but he did not and they were aware that he was giving them the software for free at the time and that it was not a legal version.

Personally I use Limewire to get music. I don't see anything wrong with this because I don't download whole albums just songs that I want. If I want the album then I would go buy it.

Ups and downs...
I admit i pirate stuff, but only to try out before i buy! Especially the expensive software packages.
When i find stuff i feel like supporting, i will pay for it.

i think everyone pirates something, and since its so hard to control they should just NOT make it illegal

I think it's ok because if it wasn't to download stuff our ISP's would not give us a traffic limit (or no limit) to download every month and plus, if original things were not so expensive I think there would be less people downloading movies, series, games, etc from the internet.
