Sadly, my mother's dog passed away today. He was only 7, had been sick for about two weeks, lost a lot of weight (from 40 down to 20 lbs) and had appeared to be getting better. The illness just came on suddenly, with no explanation. The vet wasn't able to find anything all through thge course of this, he only did his best to alieviate the sypmtoms and he had no clue as to what was wrong with the poor baby. We miss Purcy so much already...
Even sadder though, my mom now feels the need to have an autopsy done on the dog to check for poisoning - initally he didn't appear to be deathly ill, so she waited a few days to take him in, and by then checking for most posions wouldn't show up - only in death will they know for sure.
My question is this: Has anyone else ever experienced the mysterious sudden death of a pet? We feel the neighbors may have had it in for him, as they hate animals and were always complaining that the dogs abrked too much and such. What did you go through? Did you find anything out? Was the autopsy a waste of time and money or helpful? Just curious.. We are now waiting to see what the results will be.

My dog just passed away and he was 7 too. He didn't pass suddenly. We had to put him down, he was in too much pain from diabetes, he had gone blind from his cataracts, he had a lame leg, and he was getting to where he couldn't hold his pee in. I know how painful this can be. If the autopsy will help your mom feel more at ease at your pets passing, then it was worth it. I think I would want to know as well. You could quite possibly be right that the neighbors may have had something to do with it. I hope all turns out ok and it wasn't cruelty from the neighbor that did your loving pet in.

Thank you so much! It sounds like you did the right thing for your pet. It's so hard to watch an animal in pain, I know it is. We will be sure to keep you and your dog and family in our thoughts and prayers.
