Do you have allergies?
What are you allergic to?
What do you use to treat your allergies?
My son is allergic to a few things.
He's allergic to oak and to bermuda grass among other things. I have not taken him to an allergist because I have not wanted to put him through that type of testing, but his pediatrician did a blood test on hime and found out some of the things that he is allergic to.
The medicine that he prescribed (flonase) did not help him.
I turned to some over the counter treatments.
What seems to work best for him most of the time is Claritin. Sometimes we switch to Triaminic cold and allergy.
He also uses Bendryl sometimes.

My sister is on Claritin for her allergies. I don't have any that I know of, but my husband is extremely allergic to bees. He has to go to the hosptial if he gets stung and he's always real nervous in the summer when he works outside. I have been on Flonase before, and it didn't help me either. It also burned.

I have a friend that has to keep something with him and inject himself if he gets stung. I don't know what it's called.

I cannot use Flonase, it gives me nosebleeds. I have had more success with Claritin or the generic brand. Not sure what exactly I am allergic to, as I have never been tested. The only thing I know is that when mold is high and other pollens, I get knocked back a few paces. At the moment, my sinuses are giving me pain. I took a decongestant. Yesterday, I was supposed to pick up the Claritin at the store - I ran out of it. My schedule was so busy and I was so tired from lack of sleep that I forgot to go pick it up. Now, I suffer.

My son tried both flonase and nasonex. He didn't get nose bleeds but he just hated spraying stuff up his nose. His pediatrician wasn't very understanding, so I have up discussing it with him and just started using over the counter stuff.
I feel for you on the suffering. I see what my son goes through when his allergies start to act up, I feel bad so bad for him.
I've experienced allergies to and I know how miserable it can feel. Lucky for me, I'm allergic to cats and it isn't too diffucult to avoid cats.
Ya can't avoid air!

I am taking CJ to an Pulminologist/Allergist on the 4th. His pediatrician says he has, "exercise induced asthma". He takes Singulair and Flovent everyday but I feel there's something else going on that we don't know about. I had mentioned to doctor that I wanted a "lung test" done and he agreed at first, but then he told me the next time we were in his office what was involved; how it would be conducted...
He said that CJ would have to blow into a tube very hard for quite a long time. They would be giving him a medication to make him wheeze and then conduct the test. Then they'd give him something to counter-act the first medication to stop the wheezing...WOW!
With CJ having Autism he can't really understand well enough to go through something like that; he'd probably 'freak-out' for sure and I don't want him to be traumatized. So we'll see what the allergist says on Thursday. It's going to be at least 2 hours of testing.
Good luck with your little one and keep us in your prayers for the testing.

You and your doctor making the decision not to run those tests on him remind me of a situation when my daughter was little. She used to suffer from urinary tract infections. We had an ultrasound done on her. The next test would have required inserting a catheter in her.
Before he recommended that test, he has mentioned that the problem could be related to the fact that seh was taking baths (common for children at her age).
Rather than put her through a potentially miserable experience, I chose to stop giving her baths and let her start taking showers. She hadn't had the problem again until recently...She was sore from a workout and decided to take a bath. We're pretty sure that's what caused the flare up.
I'd rather she avoid taking baths the rest of her life than see her go through a procedure that involves a catheter.

Well the only thing I am allergic to is fabric elastoplast - it is horrible when it was used on my eyes during my surgery earler in the year - my eye and cheek wers so swollen and blistered I had to have strong prescription medication! My son is allergic to a few things - like lanolin etc and my daughter is allergic to penicillin amongst other medications , tomatoes etc. the list goes on and on! I would love to have testing done but it is not easy to get done and is very expensive so we have to play it by ear! The best thing I have used for either of my children is Piriton - I use the tablets for my son and liquid for my daughter - I always have to have some of both in the house - just in case and it really does help! xxx

I've never heard of Piriton. Is it prescription or over the counter?

I'm allergic to milk, but I can have it in small doses. I also get seasonal pollen allergies, but I circumvent them. I drink a lot of tea with raw, unfiltered honey that's produced locally. It helps build up a resistance to the effects of local pollens because you're ingesting it in small quantities. If I go somewhere for a vacation during a season change I visit a grocery store and get raw unfiltered honey from that area and either use it in tea or take a teaspoon everyday. My sister complained of the same symptoms and I suggest the honey, she's been taking it every day and hasn't had any issues after the first week.

I've never heard of that method. Sounds interesting.
Maybe I'll add some honey to my sons diet.

The doctor said it’s not allergy, it is fungi. I didn’t know that’s different. He said I stay out of clothes that is soaked with my sweat or wet of something because it where fungi starts. If I want to swim on the swim, I make sure I take a proper bath right after.
I use anti-fungal creams if I notice something itchy on my skin so it won’t get any worse.

According to our doctor, my son has seasonal allergies but not sure what things he is actually allergic too i.e oak or whatever. They prescribed claritin which seems to work most times. He has never had allergies in his life until we moved to USA last year.

I am allergic to ragweed pollen and most deciduous (leaf dropping before winter) trees and timothy grass. I became immuned to over the counter medications, one by one as I got older. I use a heppa air cleaner/filter on my furnace to cut down on the problems. I also use a dehumidifier because I have rhinitus, too. There is a medication that blocks allergic reactions, but it's 100 dollars a month and my insurance won't pay for it. They want me to use an inhaller. I've tried some and they're nasty. Plus they only work a little bit. Take care.

I am extremely allergic to dust and dust mites as well as mold, must, and some outside stuff like certain trees and grasses. It's the dust that seriously kills me. OK it doesn't KILL me but I get really sick when I am in very dusty place especially if it is also damp or musty like a basement. I immediately start sneezing, my nose runs, I cough like crazy, my eyes swell. Ugh.
I don't take anything on a regular basis because there aren't many meds I can take with my thyroid medication. I use Benadryl when things get really bad but of course, I want to go to sleep immediately after. I had some nasal spray I was supposed to use every day twice a day but I don't use it now.
We are cleaning the garage and basement this week and even with a mask and goggles on, I was a mess today. I now feel like I have a very bad cold but I know it is allergies so, in a few minutes, I will take Benadryl and drop like a rock. lol.
My son had allergy testing at age 3 or 4 and never flinched at all. He had little marks on his back and arms but it didn't seem to bother him. He wasn't allergic to anything as it turns out, which is good, but I put the poor kid through the needles for nothing. The doctor suspected allergies but I guess that wasn't it and he outgrew his constant ear infections.

HI miami,
I have a few allergies. First I am allergic to morphine. I break out in hives, itch like crazy. This was discovered after surgery. The doctor gave me something to counteract it, and took me off the morphine. I was given a different med for the rest of the time I was hospitalized.
I am allergic to wood, rag weed, milk weed, grass, trees, and pollens. I try to avoid these things as much as possible. In case I fail, Benadryl gets me back in control. I have been through an allergy regimen for three years where I took a shot several times a week.
Since I took those, I went almost 15 years before I had a re-action to anything again.
Now it seems that my allergies are not as severe. They are tolerable, for the most part.
Happy posting..

Hello miamilady! Claritin works best for me. I am allergic to all crustaceans-shrimp, crabs, prawns and the like. I even spent six years not eating chicken. I think its in the genes. My mom and my cousins are also allergic to some foods. The best thing to do is not to eat those foods that you're allergic to and not to expose yourself to an unhealthy environment. I understand that some allergies are acquired..

Fortunately we don't have any food allergies that I'm aware of. Our allergies are more plant and and animal related. My son seems to be allergic to things in the air, like plants. I am allergic to cats and milty allergic to dogs. I think I'm allergic to rabbits too.
Thanks for your response and welcome to myLot!

My allergies are mostly due to pollen I guess. They usually flair up when the grass is being mowed and I have the windows open.
Since I no longer work and rarely leave the house I don't use anything for them.
The one thing that I am really sensitive to is perfume and have had a couple of bad reactions over that.
My wife wears it when she has to go anywhere, and doesn't use a whole lot, but even that small amount affects me for a little while.

I am allergic to perfume in soaps, and also to Fabric Softeners. I have to use non allergic soap and vinegar to rinse the clothes. There is some plant that grows in the Prairies that makes me sneeze all the time, but I have no idea what it is. I also have a slight allergy to Pine, so I cannot use Pine sol and every time I walk through a Pine Forest, my eyes water. I also am allergic to dust mites and that has been ever since I was a small girl and we lived in an old house. I was always itchy and I was always sneezing.
Other than that, these are the only allergies aside from having phlegm when I drink too much milk.

Yes I unfortunately have allergies. I am allergic to mold, dust mites, pollen, certain pets, etc.
I take Fexophenaphril (is that how you spell it?) Anyways, it's the generic for Allegra. It's really good. I have always had really bad allergies and not a lot of medications worked for me but this one does. And it's cheap too.

i am not certain about this, but so far i have not found anything that i am allergic to. i've been living in north carolina for nine to ten years and have not had any allergies. until last year, i had no seasonal allergies either, but last year i found my eye itched and my nose was stuffed, so i might be developing it as time goes on, i have idea, kind of weird if i think about how just suddenly developed.

I'm fall cleaning - http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1292704.aspx
and I have a VERY dusty house... I'm so chugged up and my eyes itch SO badly. I'll probably take some benadryl or something when I'm done for the night!
