How do you feel about crossword puzzles? Do you like working on them? Do you enjoy learning from them? Or do you just think they are a pain to work on and ignore them?
I think crossword puzzles are fun to do even if I have a hard time completing them. They are a challenge because words have so many meanings, and so many other words can be used. This is a good way to learn new words.
I attempt the Sunday crossword every week, but very seldom am I able to totally complete it. The following Sunday when the answers come out I look it up and there it is, another word to add to my vocabulary...
At least that is how I look at crossword puzzles. How do you feel about them????
Happy postiing..

Hi cajun,
We all have our own likes and dislikes. You like fill it in puzzles, and dislike cross words. I like crosswords and dislike sudoku. I think this is what they call picking your own preference. Thanks for sharing.

I used to do crosswords regularly but that is one of the things I no longer do because I prefer to spend time on-line. It would be frustrating for me not to be able to finish a cross word so sometimes I would leave it and come back to it later. I know people who use dictionaries and things but I could never do that. I think crosswords are a great help for ones's vocabulary but not as much as reading.

Hi there Ms Tickle,
Doing a crossword takes a bit of time, so I can understand that you prefer to be on-line. So do I now that I have found mylot.
At work I have a friend that I do crossword puzzles with. We always finish them together. We are not always able to finish them on our own, but together, we are able to complete them. Interesting how our different knowledge affects the ability to do cross words.
Sometmes the puzzles are so difficult that we use a dictionary. This is after 2 or 3 days of attempting to complete it, with no results. Our dictionary is a last resort. We get accused of cheating, but I don't think of it that way, it is a challenge to find an answer. If you find the answer, then you can complete the puzzle.

i enjoy answering crossword puzzles! i like answering easy ones. ^__^;; but i still try to answer the hard ones and i feel so elated when im able to guess a lot of answers. its really challenging and educational. i think its a very good way of learning trivias or general information. and yes, new words. ^__^
i seldom complete a puzzle though. LOL but the harder it is, the more challenging it becomes and the more fulfilling when i at least answer a few numbers. ^__^
my mother loves crossword puzzles too. sometimes i take a look at her undone puzzles and its fun to fill those blanks she dont know. ^__^

Hi secretbear,
I personally think crossword puzzles are very educational. There are words with different meanings, words that sound the same but mean something different. Like you, I am elated when I can finish a puzzle, which is seldom. It is worth the challenge though. Thank you for sharing with us.

Hi david,
I'm sorry you have such a bad time with puzzles. Usually if you can get the answers to the puzzle, you can figure out some of the words and how they are used. Then in another puzzle you might be able to use some of the words that you learned. And so on. I can understand your disappointment. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Hi phonhay,
I am glad that you are able to learn from crossword puzzles. The English language is very difficult, and this is a good way to learn the difference between words, and how to use other words that may mean the same thing.
It took me a long time to finish a whole puzzle by myself! Perseverance paid off! Then I was hooked!! Keep learning!!
And have a great day!

Hi lilaclady,
So that was your secret!! Finding a crossword puzzle with a topic that you were familiar with. The knowledge is important to do a puzzle. The more you know about the topic of the puzzle, the more you can complete. At least, that is what I am being told. Thanks for your participation.

Thanks for sharing. I think at one time or another most people do try to work at least one crossword puzzle. I feel that what they experience on that puzzle has a lot to do with whether or not they get more interested in it.
