How Do You Decide What To Read Next...?

When you have more than one book sitting in your "to-be-read" pile, how do you decide which one to read next? Do you read the one you really want to read, or do you save that one for last?

LOL I have tons of books on my bookshelves that i have not read yet. I just pick the next one in line and if I like it when I start reading the first few pages then I read it until i finish it. If I can't get into it then I put it down and choose the next one in line and start all over again. In the weekend my neighbor came buy and brought 3 bags full of old paperbacks for me to read. I have gone through and chose the ones I want to read and then I am going to donate the rest to our local public libary for their books sale in November. It's just too much for me to hold onto as I have run out of book shelf space.

You should try listing those books on: http://www.bookmooch.com or http://www.paperbackswap.com You can swap books with other members for free, you just pay the cost of postage (Media Mail) when you send books that others have requested.

They're very good sites for trading. Everything that I've read in the past 3 months has been from there. And once I'm done, I just relist the books so I don't get stacks of books laying around collecting dust. :)

Hmmm, sounds like something to check out, thanks for those links. I have heard and had a look at the first one a while ago but I'll check it out again. Thanks.

My decision usually is based on my mood. Sometimes I want something serious, so I will pick a non-fiction or inspirational book. If I want to be entertained, I will pick a fantasy or murder mystery. If I am reading a series, then it's a no brainer, I have to read the next book in that series as soon as possible! I also tend to pick books by authors I know and like before I will read a book by an author new to me. When I find an author I like, I will read every book I can get my hands on by that person.

I am the same way! If I'm reading a series then I will continue with the series. And once I find a author that I like, I will read everything that author has written. :)

I do the same thing. If I'm reading a book series, I'll also read the next book in the series first. But it does also depend on my mood and where I will be reading the book. If I'm going to be taking the bus, I'd rather have a serious book like mystery, suspense or realistic fiction, just as long as it isn't a humorous book. I don't like to laugh when reading books in public, so I'd enjoy the humorous book more at home than in public. Quite a few times, I end up reading 2 to 4 books at once.

It really just depends on my mood. I have a wide variety of books so I just look on the shelf and something will jump out at me. :) **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

My mood pretty much dictates everything I do in life, including which books I read. I just look at the stack of books and choose one. There is no rhyme or reason to it. I had about 4 clive cussler books on my dresser for at least a year (my sister lent them to me). I tried several times to read them. I just couldn't get in the mood for them. I read two of his books previously that I enjoyed, but not of these appealed to me. I've been reading a lot of murder mysteries lately. J.D. Robb and James Patterson. I have also enjoyed reading Janet Evanovich. I'm not sure what she qualifies as. And some Sue Grafton.

I go through the whole pile reading the synopsis on the back or inside flap of the books and pick the one that appeals to me the most at the time. At the moment, my TBR pile is only about 10 books high, but at one point I had about 90 because I'd bought a big lot of mystery/thrillers on ebay (105 books for $20 including shipping).

Wow! That was a great deal you got off of Ebay! I have about 9 books in my pile right now, and I just can't decide which one to read next. They all sound good...so I think I will have to resort to a random selection (close my eyes and point to one). :)

I have a stack of books that we have bought recently. I just have them stacked up in reverse order...with the ones bought most recently on the bottom of the stack. I just pick the one that comes next in the pile, and that's what I read.

That's a good way to decide what to read next. That way you don't have one book sitting in the pile forever. Maybe I'll start doing that too.

priority goes to the necessary and needy book. it depends upon the moment's requirement also . naturally i will go ahead with the wanted book first and save the rest for future reading .

I sometimes can wait until the last book to save my favorite. Sometimes I can't though! I kind of just put them in a stack and whatever is at the top is the one I read...now if my favorite just happens to be the top book, thats not my fault lol!

i read the synopsis at the back and decide which i like more, those that i dont like much will be the first ones that i will read and the one that i liked most will be the last. sometimes, this just surprises me with great plots. right now i dont have a to-read-books, but im planning to go and shop some coz i only have one more left to read.

I read whatever I'm in the mood for next. If I feel shallow or ADD or I just want some entertaining stories, it's chick lit for me. If I am feeling studious or academic, I have nonfiction books about animals, psychology, and biology I can pick up. I don't order them or save any for last because my to-read list is almost 100 books long! I got a lot of books as presents throughout college, when I didn't have time to read a single book for fun the entire 4 years.

I like to read books in order of the ones I'm most interested in to least interested in. I'd rather have read the book I really want to read first because I borrow books from the library. So if the due date comes but I didn't read everything, I could still return all of the books because I would already have read the books I really wanted to read.
