Should driving while texting be made illegal?

If the car is in movement of course not, but if you are stuck in traffic... I do not see the problem...

Hi laurika.. Since there are a lot of cases, wherein texing while driving is the main reason and cause why there are a lot of car accidents, then it would be reasonable to make it illegal. We should put more consideration the safety of all drivers, not only the drivers, but the people who are crossing the street as well. It is nice to text let say for emergency purposes, provided that you have to park first your car in the right place or parking lot areas before texting. Have a nice day and God speed!

Yeah, i think so too... Its really dangerous to mix both these professions.. I can't do that.. Its really hard to concentrate on driving while u r texting.. Ur mind is on the msg u want to convey to the other person thru sms, and not on the road.. So, there's always a chance that u might smthing or smbdy while u r texting while driving...

Yes it should be illegal, as should yakking on a cell phone. Anything that distracts you while you are driving should be banned. Driving requires 100% of your attention, and if you are not willing to pay sole attention to driving, then you have no business driving at all. Driving is a privilege and not a right, and far too many people fail to use the amount of care and attention that is required.

yes,... there are a lot of people now who are invole in car accident cause of mobile phones... so i think its better to made it illegal...

I'm sure that it probably should be ilegal. It takes your mind off driving. When driveing a person should be paying attention to every thing that is going on around you and you can't if your texting. Both hands should be on the wheel and they can't be if your texting.

Definitely I think that it should be made illegal as texting while driving can always cause distraction in driving. Most probably this would cause accident if doing so. In my country traffic rules prohibit us to use cell phone while driving. Anyhow it is allowed to use mobile phone if with earphone attached while driving.

It is rather dangerous, and so I think it should be made illegal. You certainly cannot concentrate on the road when you are texting someone, and even if someone, a passenger is texting someone on your behalf, and you look away from the road for an instance to tell her or him this or that, another car or a semi might swipe you, you may swerve into another car. It really cannot be that important to turn off on a side road, stop somewhere and use the cellphone then, would it not and there are places where you can stop for an emergency and wouldn't it be better to talk into the phone instead?

I hate for someone to have to make ANOTHER law. But if people are going to be so careless that they continue to text and drive, yes, I think a law should be made. I kind of resent the fact that the offenders are making people pass more laws. Where is common sense? There is NO excuse to do that.

i am so against texting while driving! i dont drive and i ride on public utility vehicles so im really against texting while driving. its very dangerous! you're right when you said that we cant concentrate on driving while texting. an accident could happen anytime! drivers of public vehicles should always be extra careful since its not only their life that's on their hands, but also the lives of their passengers! they should be concerned of the welfare of their passangers.

I think driving whilst texting is more dangerous than driving whilst talking on the phone. Neither is safe, but to text, you must have one hand off the steering wheel and be looking down at the keys now and again.. It only takes a few seconds to have an accident, the time it would take to take your eyes of the road another vehicle of pedestrian can walk in front of your car.

one fella got sslappe dso hard on his ear for talking on a cellphone while driving. from that day i dont use the cellphone.also they cancell licence here.they put it in news papers.this is what happens when u act too smart!

While driving it should be totally illegal!! I've seen a few accidents cause of a person trying to text while driving. I don't even like to talk on my cell while I'm driving. Anything that you do while you're driving makes you a danger on the road!! You're not paying attention to the road, conditions, other drivers, etc. so all of it should be illegal. We totally need to be careful of what we do behind the wheel of a car. Driving is a privelege not a right. If you drink & drive then kill an innocent person, you knew what you were doing no matter how drunk you were. Doing irresponsible things like texting while you are driving & killing or injuring an innocent person is the same. You knew what you were doing yet you still did it.

no, i don't think it should be illegal to text while you are driving. People should do whatever they want while they are driving; people can multitask.

I agree with you that it should be made illegal driving while texting messages. It is so dangerous to not only the driver himself but also to his passengers and the passers-by. A responsible driver will never do this if he values his own and others' life. Thanks for your nice topic.
