What is the padlock thing at the top of Internet Explorer?

I've been trying to get online at work through our wireless connection. But I keep getting a little padlock thing at the top of internet explorer that is keeping me from getting on. It keeps asking if I can trust this site. I can, and I've installed the certificate, so why can't I get on? I can get on the portal page, but when I try to go to anything else, I get 'Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage'. I had a DNS issue but have that resolved. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I think its all about the secure site. My problem getting online at work is apparently totally unrelated.

The padlock is just IE's way of telling you it's a secure site. You've installed the certificate, so it's recognizing it as secure. Your issues are seperate. The 404 you're getting (IE can't display, etc etc) is not related to that padlock. First ensure it's a problem on YOUR end and isn't universal. Have someone else try to go there, someone from your work for example. See if they experience the same problem. Then narrow it down further by trying another browser. If you can get on with Firefox or Opera, then you know the problem is IE. If you can't, it's the site itself.

Other people have been able to get on, that's whats so frustrating. At home, I use Yahoo, and I have a 2Wire gateway for wireless for my laptop and other computer. So, using the laptop at work, under wireless connections, it says I'm connected but I can't load the pages. I've even tried uninstalling the Yahoo software, and just using IE7 and Mozilla. I have no problems at home connecting wirelessly, but can't get on at work. We go through a blue socket connection, and I can get to the sign on page, then the first page for my work, but after that it just takes me back to the sing on page for blue socket every time.

Yes, I tried Mozilla and get the same thing. I've also tried uninstalling IE 7 and reinstalling it to see if something there got messed up. It didn't help. One thing I noticed on the portal site is that it says it supports IE 6. But I can't find IE 6 to download anymore, everything is 7. I wonder if that could be the problem.

The new blue padlock pops up next to the information bar when you are visiting a Web site believed to be secure. Is that what you're asking for?

To be honest, I'm not quite sure what I'm asking. I understand the secure site part, but don't know why I can't load the page. I thought maybe it was something in my security settings, but I've played with those and still can't get on.
