Among all the movies you've watched so far, which do you find most disturbing and why? Please include the director, if possible.

I've heard from friends "HOSTEL" was very disturbing. That's why I didn't watch it, hehehe. But there is this Nicolas Cage flick "8 MM" which I did watch. I find the subject matter (snuff films) and the story very disturbing. It didn't show too much violence, only suggestions of it - but it was very effective in bothering me 'til night time (I found myself lying in bed wide awake, trying to erase what I've watched). Also, there's The Exorcist (old one and new one) for reasons of creepiness. ..... and any movie with Paris Hilton in it is extremely disturbing. Hehehe.

Hostel was indeed disturbing, overdosed. I've already watched 8MM and, like you, I find it disturbing as well, but it didn't bother me as much as it bothered you, since I didn't find myself lying in bed wide awake after watching it. Exorcist was really freaky and it really spooked me out, to be frank, though it may not be as extremely disturbing as Paris Hilton's movies. lol... Thanks for your excellent post and Happy myLotting! ;)

crucifixion - Jesus Christ underwent so much pain and suffering
That would have to be The Passion of the Christ by Mel Gibson. Although the movie tells the story of my Lord, I found it difficult to watch how Jesus Christ was tortured. He underwent unbelievable pain and suffering. Thankfully the movie ended on the resurrection.

They brought that film to church and played it during the young people's hour, and folks especially the kids, they just cried and cried during that film. I remember it well.

I would tend to agree with you that The Passion of the Christ was quite graphic and, I would not, in any way, fault you for finding it difficult to watch the torture of Jesus Christ. If I'm not mistaken, Mel Gibson was even heavily criticized for this film, especially by those who felt that the depiction of the pain and suffering that Christ went through was unbelievably visibly intense. If it's any consolation, though, as you've said, it thankfully concluded with the resurrection of Christ. Thanks for your insightful sharing, wisedragon! Happy myLotting! ;)

Well I'm a fan of documentary films, but I don't watch and am not aware to all of them. I only watch I can and whenever I have time, since I need to be in the mood to stay totally focused on the film. I've seen the infamous "Cannibal Holocaust" but I don't really know the real story behind it, since I haven't had much time research if the events that occured there where really true. But it seems really true, so I didn't pursue to make a research of it because it's a gruesome film and that I really got disturbed by it..

It's been a long time since it was made, that I forgot the director's name. But try also the award-winning film directed by Steven Spielberg, "Schindler's List" which starred Liam Neeson. It's also a great film, as it was also based on true-to-life events during the World War II holocaust about the Jews.

The title of the film alone is already quite creepy, to my mind, especially since it seems to involve cannibalism (who in his right mind would enjoy watching a film where a human is devouring his/her fellow human?) and/or the holocaust (a devastatingly horrific period in our history, to be sure). By the way, if you know, raijin, who directed it and when did it come out in cinemas? Thanks a lot and Happy myLotting! ;)

I perfectly understand, raijin. I would just scour through the net to find relevant info about Cannibal Holocaust. Schindler's List is indeed a great World War II film and it really moved me. It really made me feel like I was likewise in that dark time in our history, experiencing the soul-crushing agony that Holocaust victims were experiencing then. Thanks for recommending it, though, raijin! Happy myLotting! ;)

( I DID however LOVE the H.G.WELLS story!) And *Hills have eyes* - mostly cuz my family & I travel alot and well... it scared the CRAP out of me that it COULD happen - u just never know what people will do! :( Im not much for desert *vacations* but still! The first movie to pop into my head was, Hostel. This said, i don't think it was a particually good movie, fx were a bit naff, and you don't really see much, it's more implied. What makes it disturbing is the whole idea, Eli Roth your a very sick man lol Don't think i'll watch the 2nd. The only thing I've ever watched thats disturbed me big time isn't a movie but a short clip on rotton.com. A so called friend thought they'd show me, and i was completly unaware of what i was about to be subjected too. I won't go into it apart from to say, it upset me so much i couldn't see anything other than the image and would periodically burst into tears.

That clip must really be terribly disturbing, considering that after viewing it, you were so much upset that you "couldn't see anything other than the image and would periodically burst into tears." I could just imagine how understandably equally upset you may have been with your "so called friend" for tricking you into watching that horrifying clip. If you could still remember, though, twilight_75, what's the title of that clip? If ever there is one, who directed it? I just want to personally know whether such clip would top the disturbing films I've already watched. Thanks a lot and Happy myLotting! ;)

The move called "HOSTEL" is the most disturbing movie I have ever seen. All that torture being done on humans by other humans was just sick! I had no idea that movie was going to be like that. I had a hard time getting over that movie. And I'm 25 and I couldn't sleep! UGH! It's nasty and I regret watching it! I also heard there was a HOSTEL 2 coming??????? And then the movies SAW! I watched all the SAW movies, it's pretty sick, but for some reason I keep watching, but I can't watch it alone. LOL! But HOSTEL is the one I feel shouldn't even have been made!

I would NOT watch HOSTEL 2. It was to sick for me. But I would watch the new SAW movie coming out. If I had someone to watch it with me and my kids were asleep! I know the SAW movies are pretty scary and sick, but HOSTEL beats them all. It just seems to real...

In terms of grown up movies...The Blair Witch Project, 8mm, and V for Vendetta stand out for disturbing me. The previews for The Hitcher bothered me enough that I refuse to watch the movie. There are others but their titles escape me now. On the disturbing children's programming theme- Sponge Bob Square Pants, BooBahs, Teletubbies, The Wiggles, and The Upside Down Show.

You're now officially included in the growing list of myLotters who were really disturbed by 8 mm, foxyfire33. I haven't seen Blair Witch Project yet, but a lot of people have told me that it's actually quite disturbing. Who directed it, by the way? In regard the disturbing children's programming theme, on the other hand, to be frank, I haven't seen any of it yet. Would such children's programs still be disturbing for an adult, though? Thanks a lot and Happy myLotting! ;)

Nicolas Cage was much more on the edge back then, more willing to take risks I think. He did have some awesome movies! I think he did good in Ghost Rider, but he just doesn't have the boom he used to have at the box office. I miss the old Nic Cage!

The most disturbing films for me were Peewee Herman and the teletubbies. the sun with a baby's face on it, aliens living in a valley with nothing but rabbits and they seem to like thrusting their hips forward and showing off their tummies with TV sets on them. before this show I only used to see these things in my dreams when I've had a little too much to eat. and then there's Peewee herman a grown man who likes wearing make-up and doing very immature things. "daig pa kaya si Jacko" The writers/directors that made them seem to be on a bad acid trip.

i was reading through the responses you have recieved so far. what caught my attention is one title of a particular movie, SCHINDLER'S LIST. that i guess is the most disturbing film i have ever seen in my life. it has similar story line with V for Vendetta. i watched SCHINDLER'S LIST last night and i ended up crying. i haven't recovered until now. but i am amazed of one man's attempt of saving 1,200 jews from the brutal hands of the nazis. *sigh* watch it. you'll feel that there is still enough room for one more.

I notice SCHINDLER'S LIST come up more than a couple of times, and I have to admit, I have watched it but not all the way through because of it's graphic nature. That movie is remarkable though. I have to admit but I don't believe I can watch it all the way through. The Pianist is another film that is quite remarkable as well.

Titanic. James Cameron directed it. It wouldn't have been so bad except for the soundtrack. I still have nightmares that cause me to wake up in the night, sweating profusly as I hear those screeches in my head.

Hmm...I have seen so many films. Some horror films are disturbing. It is hard for me to say was is the most disturbing. There is an older movie called Clockwork Orange...that was pretty disturbing. Good movie, I enjoyed. I recent movie I watched and found to be disturbing is "Perfume." The storyline was disturbing...but I have to admit it was a beautifully made film. Very well done. Beautiful imagery and art direction.

Is Clockwork Orange an opus of Stanley Kubrick's? If it is, I think I've seen it already and I'm inclined to agree with you that it was really pretty disturbing. I haven't watched Perfume yet, but if it was truly "very well done" because of its "Beautiful imagery and art direction," I would definitely try my darn best to find a good copy of one. Do you know, though, who directed it and when its release date was? Thanks a lot, matteo85! Happy myLotting! ;)

i am an indian.so i have only watched censored versions of scary movies.but of all those movies that i have watched i have to say that psycho was the one that actually made me scared the most. ALFRED HITCHCOCK is a brilliant director and the fact that it is a black and white movie made it even more scary.i was 15 or 16 when i watched it. the story and the ending shocked me so much that i couldn't sleep without my bedroom lights on for atleast a month.i haven't dared to watch a movie which others have said is scary for a long time.

Do you mean a film that grossed me out or a film where the subject offended me?What really disturbs me isn't either of those things, it is when a so called romantic comedy has the coulpe hating each other right until the end and then they love each other. It makes me livid.
