If you saw the Rockies- Padres game last night or if you have seen any sportscast , you know that the Rockie's player did or didn't touch home plate. Now everyone is asking should baseball use instant replay. I say no. Human error is part of the game. Umps are human and sometimes blind and that's baseball. If they use instant replay, the games would take about 6 hours, the pitcher would need to re warm up and there would be still plays that instant replay couldn't overturn.

Being an umpire and knowing many of them, they just don't make calls. There's a theory around the sports world that umpires give a call based on visinity. That is false. Umpires make the call based of if the play did or did not touch the base. Angles are everything to an umpire. The plate umpire, Tim McClellend was in perfect position to make that call. He saw Holliday touch the plate and he saw that Barrett didn't hold onto the ball, so he called him safe. Instant replay would just ruin the game and make the game of baseball worse. It's the only sport where managers and players can get into an officals face. Imagine if replay were involved. It would ruin the game and make a strong point to get rid of umpires and go to a completely computerized officiating system for the game. I don't like it and I hate that it's brought up.

I couldn't agree with you more. Using instant replay would ruin the game.Baseball is the only sport where it shouldn't use instant replay. There will be human errors at times but most of the time the umps get it right.

I agree and so NO. Think of how terrible that would have been if the home place went wild and then they said it had to be reviewed. Plus after watching it many times I can't tell beyond doubt that he did or didn't touch the plate.

I know. I saw it live and thought that he was safe because the catcher lost the ball. But when I saw the first replay that was a close-up and I just knew he didn't touch the plate. But today, I saw another replay where his left hand could have touch the plate but the catcher is blocking the angle you need to make sure.
