I'm just wondering, why do we say cats have nine lives, and not 8 or 7? could somebody please enlighten me on this?

I guess it's because cats are so smart that they could get themselves out of a dangerous situations easily, unlike us clumsy humans. Therefore giving them more lives. Now why 9 lives, beats me...All I know is that here in Brazil they say cats have 7 lives.

It's just an expression. Maybe, nine is the favorite number of the person who started it. Im not a cat lover so i don't give too much attention on it. :-)

I don't know why the number 9, but cats do tend to land on their feet, they are very acrobatic and an animal that is not a feline would not survive.
