A lot of ManileƱos are afraid to come to Zamboanga because they think that it is not safe to come here. Have you been to Zamboanga? What is your impression about the city?

Zamboanga is such a nice place indeed. Noone can really say something bad to it. As what I've heard, it is known for making "malong", and "vinta". It is also famous haven for Muslims. I'm not so sure now if there are still a lot of Muslims there. I have a lot of friends there. And I don't need to be afraid. What are friends are for anyway.

Actually, it is safe to travel to Zamboanga. There is this stigma attached with the place because of the war that is happening in its neighboring provinces such as Basilan and Jolo. People from the North think that the war is in Zamboanga. TV Networks usually report from Zamboanga as the Armed Forces of the Philippines' Southern Command is based in Zamboanga. The truth is, criminal rate is in Zamboanga is much lower than the other big cities in the country.

Well from the recent bombings that had happened there it seems like it put your place in a bad place. But as my father had said who came there several decades ago, he liked the place as it shows a different and unique place to visit. I wonder what changes happened there.

i'm from zamboanga city and i'm proud of it. in this city there's no hold ups in jeeps. no rape. no gang wars. no expert con men. its just a city with everything what a man basically needs or will need. if you want simple living, then this is the place. bombs? well even london's being bombed. we rarely have it here! it's just the media talking. zamboanga is even better than tondo, quiapo, payatas combined.

The idea of zamboanga that is not safe is the work of the media and close minded people. Yes bombings in Zamboanga are there, but manila has a lot of snatchers, hold uppers, and even murderers. So I don't think that having this idea is fair for zamboanga. Anyway I hope everyone can be open minded. -thanks by "batman"

I haven't been to Zamboanga, I've only seen it in pictures. But I know most ManileƱos' impression of the city is like what you mentioned- not safe (probably they watch news too much?. It's sad that a beautiful city has that certain connotation attached to it. What the City Government of Zamboanga must then do, is to promote it positively to attract tourists and investors alike and eventually erase the negative impression of the public.

Zamboanga City? Well then though my roots are not found in Zamboanga City for they are found in Batangas, I find La Bella Ciudad de Zamboanga a nice and safe place to live in. Nothing to be afraid of here really. People here (mostly) speak the Spanish-Creole, Chavacano... A mixture of Spanish words (Mexican) and local terms combined with the sentence structures of the local dialects here.... Nice place really. Esa es una bella ciudad en Filipinas. Es verdad.
