yes, you've heard it from the lines of Teri Hatcher from Desperate Housewives, you've read the endless letter widely circulated in emails the Hate Letter on Filipinos from Mr. Art Bell (whose wife is a Filipina as well), and the girl from WWW.MULTIPLY.COM who hates FILIPINO product (i forgot that girl's name although she's half filipina herself she discriminated her own country) anyway, my point is, why do u hate us? why do people generalize us? not all filipinos are bad. and the same goes to some of u out there. nobody is perfect. yes, i admit that the country i come from is in bad crisis, but despite that, we still have our own values that not some of the countries have. and that is what makes me proud for being a filipina. im also proud on the fact that we filipinos support one another. we dont juz leave our fellow filipino down. those issues has been an outrage for us for looking down on us..please we should learn to RESPECT each other's differences and accept for who and what we are.

Hi dear its was really NEWS to me as i did not heard that, its really sad event and must not have been said. No one is bad. Every country and every society have Good People and Bad people, either iits philipines, Pakistan, USA, UK, Australia or any where in world but on basis of that NO BODY has right to comment about NATION it must be condemned properly Sure Philpines is nice country and i know few philipino in person and they are really nice and easy going friends, they are hard worker, they are honest, and they want to work to progress. i also have lot of online friends and they are philino among them, i like them They are providing many services to many countries and imagine what if they were not there. and look at those people who love u cheer up tc Dont feel bad about these words as they dont know it properly,

Well i dont discriminate on bases of color of skin, language they spoke and money one earn, i am concern about his/her attitude towards me. one minght be bad for others but sure some are there who liked them Other thing people dont think before they speak OR they dont know thats "Words hurts more than dagger"" u know what i like most about philipinos, their strong ties with their family and their commimtment to support them. they sacrifice their personal life for family and its really great, value are more important then color of skin. so cheer up

We, like you, are not what is shown on television! There is more to life for all of us that the evening news... its only the bad that gets shown, never those of us who just live our lives and love our families and friends. And I NEVER watch 'Desperate Housewives'... they make women appear to be frivolous or to be tramps, and they offend me.

I think it's racial discrimination just like black people are looked down upon. I was in the Middle East and I've met a lot of Filipinos (at work). All of them were very nice people. But I did find that outside most of the Arabs (and even people of other communities including mine) looked down upon them. Most Filipinos were considered as cheap labour (even though that wasn't true). I feel every person is an individual first and we should be able to respect and understand that.

uve got a good point.....somebody here juz mentioned that FILIPINO is defined in dictionary as domestic helpers....same as cheap labors....they might have that perception owing to the fact that many filipinos go abroad to earn money. i see nothing wrong with it though as long as the work done is decent and will help meet the needs of the family who are left in philippines. but still, we deserve respect :( we are not that bad....we are human trying to work hard. and yes its racial discrimination....

Even domestic help work for the money and why can't it be seen as any other work? They get paid for it. I'm surprised as a dictionary defined Filipinos as domestic labour. That's totally untrue. The term 'Filipinos' is not used anywhere to mean domestic help!I guess you should be suing the publishers of the dictionary.

Yes I agree with you my friend. Even if they treat us as if we were modern day slaves we still deserve to be respected. well, is that what they think so be it. There are really people who are easy to discriminate specially if they belong to the first class.

The lines delivered by Teri Hatcher who plays the role of Susan Mayer, in the series' Season 4 premiere episode of "Desperate Housewives" is very insulting to the Philippine medical schools in particular and to the Filipinos in general. It's not good for us because we all know that there are good doctors who graduated in the Philippines. The remark was irresponsible and without basis. The slur will tarnish the good image of our Filipino doctors in the international community. In the scene where Mayer was being checked up by a doctor, she asked for the man's credentials and said, "Can I check those diplomas 'coz I just want to make sure that they're not from some med school in the Philippines." The premiere episode, which has been posted on YouTube.com, drew criticism from the Filipino community on the Internet. Filipinos abroad are clamoring for an apology from the TV series' producers. I vouch for the move taken by the president of the Philippine Medical Association to seek audience with the president of the American Medical Association to compel the TV producers to issue a public apology because of the insulting remark. The Philippine Consulate in New York has said it will also send a letter of protest to ABC Network and ask for an apology for the slur. Hopefully, this issue will be settled fairly. RESPECT is what we need.

correct although i cant put the blame to Teri Hatcher since she is just acting based on the script given to her, the responsibility goes to the writer and producer of the show and to the ABC...it really make us look bad..... they forgot the fact that filipino nurses and doctors are in demand in their place, else they might as well ban filipinos in there if they treat us like that.

This is a really sad situation. Just when I feel that the world is learning, something like this comes up again. My husband has been to the Phillipines several times, working with a film production company. He has told me that it is a beautiful country, and that everyone he worked with was very kind and generous. He would eat lunch with the workers, because the bosses weren't as nice, and because the workers were such good cooks... he likes his food spicy! He was very sad to leave his new friends when the filming was over... he enjoyed himself very much!

LOL! No, he's not famous, he works behind the scenes to make everything else look good! He usually works with airplanes or boats that are used in productions. He's retiring soon, and he has loads of wonderful memories. The one celebrity he met in Manila was Chuck Norris!

I am a Filipino and I am proud to be a Filipino. I don't care what other people think about us because I believe that these people who are spreading negative feedback about Filipinos has no idea what they are talking about. I don't think they've ever been to the Philippines and met a Filipino at all. I think they're comments are just based on hearsay and stereotypes. I think before they make any comment, they must try to live in the Philippines first and learn what Filipino culture is all about, I'm sure they will realize the positive characteristics we have.

hi cefaz_21. may i come in? ABC network has already made an apology regarding their Desperate Housewives show's irresponsible and racial slur made by Teri Hatcher. but we shall take this incident as a wake up call to us. let's improve more our medical schools' credibility in producing highly qualified medical graduates. let's prove that we have the best medical people in town!

I just watched that episode on youtube and I did feel insulted. I have several relatives and friends who are successful doctors in the United States and they are quite respected. I don't know what prompted the writer to write such a slur. Maybe it was the leakage in the nursing board exam. Maybe it's the fake diplomas that can be bought at Recto. I do know that as a people we have a lot of good qualities and we have to carry on being good hard-working professionals. I don't care about those specific persons who hate Filipinos. To hell with them. Some day karma will hit them in the face.

the leakage is a big issue as it has indeed put a bad name to the filipino meds. however, why bring it up again when the people here were doing hard to patch up that mistake? besides not everyone cheated on that exam :( that is why its not good to generalize. and yes someday karma come crawling to them....HARD... =) thanks for the comment

I have many things to say about this, believe me. But in short, probably if filipinos themselves learn to love their ROOTS more, than the rest of the world would too. Why i said this? Read this article, (not by me of course, i found it on the net) http://pepper.idge.net/slashdot/philipinos/

i have read that already from chain mails =) and im very aware of that, we are just people trying to make up our own identity. besides, the issue here is about people talking bad about us openly, u know its not a good thing, sometimes, there are things that are better left unsaid, than say something hurtful that would likely create TROUBLE. thats the main point.

Sometimes, I hear stories defining Filipinos as immoral, weak, lazy, dumb, etc. But we Filipinos should not move to other countries to go away from shame, but instead, we should do our best, that we can exceed those who are mocking and degrading us. When that thing happens, all the words, actions, everything they did against us will fall on them. We should not respond to an insult with another insult. We must prove that we are not the one worthy of that insult. Philippines is beautiful, rich, its people smart, great, regarded as amazing, but still we are progressing like a snail, all because we are affected negatively by that insults, some are even just accepting what others say. WE MUST PROVE WE ARE NOT WORTHY OF THEIR INSULTS BY BEING GREATER THAN THEM.

Honestly, i do not see why there is so much fuss about this. Is it not true that we have a LOT of medical schools whose quality of education is not worldclass, and even deteriorate over time? Is it not true that we have had such controversies regarding the licensing of doctors and nurses in the past? Being hurt because other people have pointed out our mistakes and weaknesses is such a cheap way of dealing with reality, if not pathetic. I remember some comments Clare Danes had about Filipinos a couple of years back, and i wonder why we feel bad when foreigners point out reality to us as they see it. Besides, do we not enjoy calling Chinese, Indians and dark-skinned people degrading names? Come on guys, get real! What goes around comes around. We only reap what we sow. Enough said.

there is a fuss about that, i dont like it if somebody talks bad about me. its the same thing as that. thus its our way of standing up for ourselves..not juz sulk down, sink lower and let people degrade us :)

17 Oct 07
Well, i think you are sulking and going down to the level of people who have no intention of insulting us. Besides, who are we to the Americans? Please do a reality check here. We are hurt because other people have simply stated a fact about us. I suggest that we take this with a grain of salt and start getting our act together.

well i think that comment should not be taken seriously because teri hatcher's character is known for being tactless, clumsy and not very level headed, and the fact that ABC apologized is enough.we cannot escape being stereotyped, like middle east is the breeding ground for terrorists or africa being the aids capital of the world (sorry if i offend anyone) but its here to stay so we cant really do anything about it. besides, the reality is everyone talks sh*t about everyone anyway. we just have to be strong about it.

That is really true! I'm a filipino now living in England. But still, I always talk about being a filipino with my friends. I even teach them how to speak tagalog! which is really funny. Imagine their british accents but in speaking tagalog! LOL. But anyways, about your point I really don't get people like that but you are right there is always a sense of unity within filipinos. I can remember talking to my friend about American Idol. And I couldn't shut myself as I keep mentioning that Ramiele Malubay is a filipina!! And that Christel Simms is my second cousin who is then swimming for Philippines in the Beijing Olympics! There are a hell of a lot other reasons filipino's should be proud of. I'm not discriminating or anything though!

sad to say that not all Filipino's are loyal to their own country. If I would buy something and give it to a Filipino in their own country they would look first at the tag and seen where it was made. If it was not made in Japan or the Us but made in the Philippines they would pull a long face and show they were not pleased. This happened many times when my Filipina wife who was single at the time was working in Tokyo, Japan and brought back goods from Japan..if the brand was Sanyo or some other country like Korea and not Seiko watch, or Sony Brand or Pioneer Brands..top of the lines then the people were not pleased with the item..I bought a watch made in the Philippines (Timex) and Filipina women would look at this and tell me this was "junk" even though Timex was my favoriate watch since I was a teenager (it took a likcking but kept on ticking()but it still goes on and it is what is called "COLONIAL THINKING." People who come back from abroad to the Philippines some time act so stuck up its hard to believe they forgot where they came from..as they put on 'airs'. and snub the very people who helped them when they were growing up.

Respect begets respect. It is earned. We don't impose it (I could remember Bea's line from PBB while she had a heated argument with maricris, funny). We should take this as a challenge and show to them that we are not what they think of us. And we should also refrain from doing this very same thing. The most recent would be the racial slurs that we throw to the Chinese. Even a Senator is guilty of this, think Miriam Santiago. Anyway, true. That was uncalled for. We have many good and competent doctors. St. Luke's hospital is even more competitive than 90% of the hospitals in the US. The first gentleman had his delicate operation here in the Philippines when he could have undergone through it abroad. Filipinos are one of the most intelligent and most talented people of the world. We, Filipinos, should start looking at ourselves like that. We should have confidence in ourselves and we should, well, love our being Filipino. And let us show them that we are a special people, that although we are a small country, we are a great one too. Where else in the world can you see a national hero who is a novelist, a doctor, a poet, a patriot, a propagandist all at the same time? :D

they discriminate because they have a small brain for improvement and they think filipinos are all alike just as we filipinos think of them as greedy and power hungry people...they may have some bad times with some filipinos but they should know that filipinos are good people bad enemies...
