When I got home last night, my dear husband confided to me that he had gotten into an incident with a friend. The friend is from sri lanka and we're helping him get used to england while he's here studying. My hubby and the friend had gone for a drink and were happily sitting outside the pub talking away when two big guys walked past them and called my hubby a really nasty name that implied he was against white people and loved darker skinned people (i wont repeat it because its completely disgusting and will get this post removed).
Anyway, my hubby just sat there and took it and came home with the friend and told me about it. Im just wondering who has seen or been a victim of reverse racism? i hate racism in all its forms and wont tolerate it in any way so to hear that sort of thing about my own countrymen was a shock. Please share any advice/stories.
Thanks.

I hat racism in all forms. Fortunately I've not experienced it myself. But I had a friend who judges people on their race (I wouldn't go far as to say hate) but he does have generalized opinions about people of a certain race. I don't like it one bit and kept telling him so everytime he spoke in that manner. When he didn't quit, I stopped talking to him. I just couldn't stand that kind of generalisation. I understand one not liking a person for their qualities. 'So and so is a liar. I don't like him'. But comments like 'He's a ____, he's bound to be a liar' are things that really make me angry!
Your husband must be a very calm person...lol. Though I would have reacted, on second thoughts I think your husband was right..it's better to ignore such people.

hiya!
I think you were right to stop talking to the guy who wouldnt stop saying stupid things. It just surprised me that people still think like that especially as i dont. Your right about ignoring people like that, we found its the best way because its obvious they are spoiling for a fight. Thanks for replying!

I think whatever was said to your husband was not appropriate. May be the persons who said all this rubbish in front of your husband and his friend were not civilised. I completely agree with you that racism is the worst thing in the world and people should not be discriminated at any cost, on the basis of their colour, cast or creed. Racism is really disgusting, whosoever follows it is not a civilsed person.

Not "reverse racism"; just plain racism.
"Reverse racism" is when a minority race is given preferential treatment simply because they are a "minority race".
The incident you mentioned occured when to racist individuals thought that your husband was "supporting" minority races and the racist comment was applied to him as "traitor to his own race".
Those jerks were just spoiling for a fight and I am glad your hubby was the "bigger" person who just "considered the source" and ignored them instead of sinking to theie level.

heya,
Thanks for clearing up the definitions there for me. I didnt know what else to call it to be honest lol. You got the comment's essence in a nutshell, we were just surprised that people would even think like that never mind come out and say it. My husband thinks they were just out for a fight and im glad he walked away, they were so not worth his time or energy.

I am hispanic and I used to get into fights with other hispanic girls in high school because I dated white guys. It is so stupid. I used to tell those girls that I dated the guy cause he was cute and we liked each other, not because he was white or hispanic or black. I have dated all races. I think people are just too stupid sometimes. People are people. Those guys need to just grow up and get over it.

I am glad to know there are still nice people like you and your husband who are against racism. Just recently we Filipinos have been victimized on Desperate Housewives, a popular TV show around the world. Teri Hatcher's character said "Can I just check those diplomas? I just want to make sure they're not from some med school in the Philippines". We as a people are hurt. The truth is our doctors are very good.
Oh well, I guess there will always be people who think they are superior over others. They think their sh_t don't stink.

I dont watch deseprate housewives so i didnt know about that. If i did watch it though i would have stopped as soon as i heard that. It is completely wrong to say stuff like that even on tv in my opinion. Everyone is equal and yeah you get stupid people sometimes but they can be ignored, i wish the tv companies would think before doing stuff like that.
Thanks for replying!

Racism is bad. I say that some people think reverse racism is ok since they had been prejudiced against. But Racism is never good. Nothing good will come out of Racism instead Problems will come out of racism. All you get from racism is violence. Violence leads to destruction.

Hiya,
I think you may be right there. Racism just leads down one long chain of misery, i wonder if those guys ever thought of that. Probably not, they certainly didnt sound as if they had a brain cell between them.

Well it seems that you just can't please them all. Some people are just too closed minded. Maybe these are the people who experienced the same in their past. I guess the best way to get rid of it is to stop making a deal about it. I mean not here in mylot but when something happens, just shrug it off as long as there's no physical abuse or some sort. I myself experienced being degraded by my own countrymen but that's just the way it is. I advice you have have more and more patience and live your life normally.
