This is the first year in a long time that my s/o has actually had off from work ON his birthday. I was really hoping we could do something special but it's just not in the cards this time. We can't even just go somewhere because our car needs some work and only seats 4 people. His dad had surgery on his hand yesterday so we can't just leave the boys with his mom so we can take off somewhere for awhile either...
Anyway...my point is, could you all share how you spent your favorite birthday? If we can't do anything, we can at least use your stories to pretend a little. Thanks!

His favorite is German Chocolate cake that his mom makes for him from scratch. I'm really hoping she does it for him tonight even though she's had a busy week...I don't have a clue how to make it otherwise I would, besides I think it's more special to him when his mom makes it!

If resources are short, we can be more creative. How about writing him a romantic love letter telling him how much he mean to you. Or writing a poem dedicated for him. Or cooking up a simple dinner just for the two of you, complete with candles and soft music? It will be more meaningful that havind a grand party.

Suprisingly enough foxyfire, my favorite birthday was during a time very similiar to what you are describing. My husband and I were both going to college full-time, working full-time and raising 3 children. We were BROKE, to put it mildly.
We made it a very special day by planning a "family celebration". From morning to bedtime we prepared special meals, played games, walked in our neighborhood and laughed, thankful that we had each other to cling to and love.

That sounds so sweet...he's not really into tha kind of thing but it'd be perfect for my birthday! I ended up just letting him do what ever he wanted even though none of it really included us.

Very frequently my family and I will sit around the kitchen table and play various board games;like monopoly, parchessi, clue etc..
If this isn't a habit of yours why not try it for a night .Playing the board games brings the family together and doesn't cost a thing.

I enjoy board games...not his thing though. It's funny though that I just played Monopoly for the first time ever just a few months ago! Now I can't wait for the chance to play.
