my daughter was actually 10 weeks old when she started teething. but her first tooth didn't cut through the gum until she was 8 1/2 months old. it just depends on the child. her pediatrician says that anywhere between 6-12 months is normal for the first tooth to come out, but they can start earlier than that. i read a study that a tooth should typically take 8 weeks from the time it starts to show in the gum to eruption.

My oldest was around 4 months, the youngest was 6 months. But it's not important at what age they start teething, it's even possible to have a child been born with his first teeths already in his mouth. And on the other hand, a friend of mine had a child who started teething around one year. It starts when they're ready, no sooner, no later.

Both our girls got their first tooth between 5 and 6 months old. I've heard of alot of people saying their kid was teething earlier than that. My sister was told by her doctor that her son was teething at 4 months...but he didn't actually break through a tooth until 7 months old. I think all kids are different. I had a kid in daycare that didn't get any teeth till he was a year old.
