In the show Desperate Housewives there is a line from one of the actress that discriminates Filipino doctors. She wanted to make sure that the doctor(whom she was talking) diploma does not come from any medical school in the Philippines. Does this mean that our medical school in the Philippines is not good? For me this is a discrimation and it hurts as a Filipino that we are being looked down. How about you? What can you say about this issue? Do you think Philippines medical school are low class?

it hurts of course, it hurts because it is true. this past board exams of nurses has been a disaster. i think we should blame our goverment for that. we cant control people on what they like to say. i've been in and out of the philippines and in other country there are more hurting words that you can hear when they are talking about filipinos.
i dont think Philippine medical schools are low class but some of the filipinos make it that low.
ang hirap kasi kasalanan ng isa nagiging kasalanan ng lahat.

That is true. It hurts when we are being generalized. I hope someday our race will be one of the respected people in the world. I also have heard from people who work or from other countries that we Filipinos are discriminated there. But here in our country the opposite happens. We encourage and we treat with high respect to most of the foreign people here.

no many foreigner still wants to study here in the philippines why? maybe its cheaper but quality teaching, do you know that president of america's doctor is a Filipino? if the president believe in the filipino doctor, it just because filipino are better than american doctor! right! the president of america is an american why choose a filipino doctor its because he trust filipino doctor better than a american doctor! So this actress or this director producer of this movie have no right to say that to a filipino people! so better banned this movie, lets help ourself and promote our good attitudes towards everyone!

Maybe the script writer and the director did not care who will get hurt with that scene. Or we are just nothing to them, like a human being that does have no heart so they can just easily say anything.

Don't lay blame. Educate, instead. Americans and everyone else are that the mercy of what we see. What our media shows us is not the norm. Stereotypes are the norm. We are stupid. Help us to not be stupid. I am guilty as anyone else. If a doctor has a foreign sounding name, I choose another doctor. I'm human. Educate me and break down my predudices. Allow me to see things as they are. I don't know. I believe what I see. Tell me otherwise.
Thanks

it was really an outright discrimination of our filipino doctors and nurses. and to think I love desperate housewives and teri hatcher! I was really disappointed when I read about it in the newspapers. we don't deserve that comment since we have a lot of filipino doctors in the united states and americans are benefiting from them.
in one episode of one tree hill the Philippines was also insulted. it was during the episode Lucas got a badly done tattoo after his date with brooke. his uncle was so mad he asked him if he got the tattoo from some Philippine slum. I can't remember the exact words but he insulted the Philippine streets and arts.
and to think we thought Filipinos are being accepted internationaly with all those fil-ams artists sprouting here and there.

THats a real discrimination my friend. They have no right to say that, even if its just an epidiode from that sitcom, I know somehow it has affected our reputation. They should apologize for what they have done.
