If you had to be blind or deaf...

what would you rather be? That's a tough one for me. I love seeing the world and colors. I am also a music lover, so if I were to become deaf, I couldn't hear the latest songs. I think if I *had* to be either, I would prefer being deaf, just because I could at least still drive and see my clothes, friends and family. If I were blind, I'd have to get a dog, a cane, and go to a special school.

My sister's son is a blind from the age of 12 and he is staying with us. Though they are independent in doing their own personal work and going about different places in the city on their own with the help of walking stick whcih has illumination in the night, the plight of the person is too bad to watch. They really cannot enjoy the beauty of the world, beautyof flowers, they cannot imagine about the persons. I wonder how they imagine about dreams? One should thank God if one is defect free as far as main organs are concerned.

I'm legally deaf and my brother is legally blind. I couldn't choose either one because both are hard as hell to be. However I have to say this is a good subject and I thank you for starting it.
Merry Christmas!

That's tough. I've actually thought about it before, and could never decide. I love music and also the sound of people's voices, especially accents. I'd miss that if I were deaf. On the other hand, I like to read, and even though I could still listen to books, it's not the same. I guess if I had to choose, I'd choose being deaf, just because I think learning sign language or lip reading would be easier than learning braille. I've tried both.

What kind of music do you love? I'm also a music lover and if I couldn't hear the beautiful sounds of artists, I don't know what I'd do. I'm just thankful to God that I have both sight and hearing.

Well, I rather be deaf...oh wait, I am!
lol
You can have your hearing back, with hearing devices, like cochlear implants. If I was normal, I still would choose deaf, because the vision is the richest sense, and we need our eyes to see so that we won't trip and fall, or when you're making food and so on. Being deaf just takes out the hearing, which doesn't change much, but when someone is calling you so loud when you don't have your hearing device is SO much worse!
I have a good social life, and seriously, no one can tell if I'm deaf or not. It just needs practice, like a baby can't walk at first, but eventually will learn how to walk. Same thing as being deaf, your talk will be funny, but with practice, it will be fine. I am one of the top students in class for chemistry, physics and math.
However, being blind does not mean it's worse than being deaf. If you practice well enough, you can be better than a deaf person.

Were you born deaf? It's inspirational that you live a "normal" life and no one can tell you're deaf.
