Have you imagined how it would be like if we lived during the 1800's?

I just watched Pride and Prejudice and I couldn't stop but compare and wonder the people then and now and how it would be like if we actually lived during the old days.
For me, I couldn't really imagine myself living during the 1800's for the following reasons:
NO ELECTRICITY - no TV, no computer (no internet and mylot LOL!) You only light candles during the night...spooky!
LONG AND STUFFY WARDROBES - you have to wear those awful dresses that would cover your neck down to your ankles even during the summer...Ugh!
WOMEN ACTUALLY HAVE TO BE LADYLIKE ALL THE TIME - curtsies and all; you always have to be demure.
WOMEN JUST STAY HOME - I still think that men, in general, should take the bigger responsibility of providing for their families but women should also be given that option if they want to but I guess that's out of the question during the 1800's. Women during that time aren't given a lot of chances ro be as competitive, let alone successful as men.
LONG AND BORING COURTSHIPS - There's no dating...well, not like the dating we do nowadays. Men call upon the women they like and accompany them at balls (their term for parties)and during that time, they cannot even hold hands, embrace, or even kiss. They don't have boyfriend-girlfriend relationships and after a long courtship, the man would just propose to the woman he loves. Where's the fun in that?! Can you imagine not being able to make-out until the time you are engaged or worse...even married? LOL!
Despite those obvious points, I still got captured by the movie that left me in a state of trance because:
First of all, men during the old days have more respect for women. Men actually stand up when a woman enters or leaves a room. They open doors for them and they treat them with such importance and demonstrate courtesy that would make you think that it wouldn't be bad at all if men nowadays act more like gentlemen. I'm not saying that there aren't anymore left (well, not to that extent); I even saw a friend treat his wife like that and I just thought that it was so sweet!
Because men treat women with such high regard, they really take upon them the responsibility of taking care and providing for them. That would be great...no bums to worry about! LOL!
Most of all, the intensity of romance and love is deep that is not taken for granted. Marriage actually lasts. Their courtships may be long and boring but you can really see what a man would do to win the woman he loves. Primitive times or not, doesn't everyone want to find that person just for you? To share a love that would actually last?

If we didn't know about things like electricity and telephone we wouldn't miss them.I would love to go back to those days, people cared more about their neighbors, children behaved better.Overall I think life was tougher but in a good way.Today I am worried that my electricity is going to be shut off because I cannot afford it.Now if I never had it I wouldn't miss it,yet I don't know how my daughter and I are going to make it without electricity
