For those who are Catholic on the site..happy feast of a very big saint.
For those who are not.. St. Francis was born several hundred years ago. He was born to a very rich family and was considered the life of the party. He went off to fight in the Crusades was captured and became ill.
While ill Jesus spoke to Him and pointed out how foolish it was to serve the world, when it would be better to serve the creator.
After becoming healthy, Francis made an about face, threw away all his riches and even got disinherited from his father. He didn't mind as he said "Our Father" is in Heaven.
Saint Francis and his followers strove to reach out to the lepers of their day and today..those who are called Franciscan make it their aim to help the less fortunate and marginalized of our world.
Happy Saint Francis day!! By the way.. that is where the name "littlefranciscan" comes from.
I believe as Francis does that one day ..all things will belong to God and that all of us are brothers and sisters and the earth we walk on and the air we breathe are all God's.
Peace to you: Joy!

St. Francis' turning point in life was when he saw a beautiful girl (St. Claire) in the forest alone and sought after her finding out that the girl he was following was giving food to the lepers. With that sight, he was disgusted and hurried back right away. However, that scene was always in his thoughts. He was a son of a wealthy man but have chosen to live in austerity. He had followers and they were able to build a chapel some kilometers away from his hometown. They lived in the vows of poverty, chastity and obedience. A life of poverty was seen in their Franciscan mission wearing the brown habit with hood and a belt (for chastity), bare foot preaching the Gospel by deeds of helping the needy esp. the lepers.
Let us be reminded of St. Francis' values and be inspired in his teachings.
Happy feast day to you!

Happy Feast..you are wrong about the turning point though..
Clare was the one that came to Francis as she had observed him and wanted to be his follower.
It is not nice to make fun of history or of the saints.

I am not making fun of saint's history. The scene I was talking about was based from a movie (I cannot remember the title)I have watched some 14 years ago when I was joining a search-in activities under the Sisters of St. Louie Marie de Montfort. It was about the story of St. Francis of Assisi.
