When I was young my parents told me to eat everything on my plate. So I grew up doing that. And till this day I still eat everything on my plate.LOL Even if Im not hungry.LOL My grandmother was the same way when I would eat there alot of the times I didnt like her cooking so when she wasnt looking I would give it to her dog.heheheheh And I never got caught. So do you clean your plate on a daily basis?

My parents tried the bit about "People are starving in China." But I've always been a picky eater, and frankly, what they made was gross! So my plate is clean if I cook, but if someone else does, I pick at my food & end up leaving about 1/2 of it!

I remember being told this as well, but there are times when this would be impossible or I would become really sick due to being too full. But then there are some places we go eat out at that I love to go too just for the leftovers for the next day.
Also there are like all you can eat places I have tried things and then did not like them and had to leave them on my plate. I know that is wasteful, so I try not to try too many New things though.

Yeah, I do clean it up everytime I have my meals.. I don't think its a good habit to leave smthing on ur plate, and its also waste of food.. So, I prefer taking only that much that I am sure I wud be able to gobble up completely...lol.. Hey, and don't hurt ur grandma by doing that thing, she might get hurt if she ever finds it out.. Grandmas love their grandchildren a lot, and it wud be foolish to hurt her this way.. Don't take it if u don't like it.. Say to her that u don't like what she cooks, n she must try cooking it in some other way.. That wud be much better than the former way...

Heck no. I don't clean my plate because I would have to sit at the table for a few hours. I really don't have a large appetite. Not sure if this will explain but My mom had her stomach stapled. I eat less than she does even though she got her stomach made smaller!
I eat the main stuff. Like if I go to a restaurant and I get some sort of fried chicken salad (i love those things).. I make sure to eat all the chicken, leave the lettuce. I eat the cheeseburger, leave the fries. Things like that. When I cook for myself at home I almost always have leftovers, sometimes 2 days worth. It's ridiculous I know, but I just can't eat much.

yes i do make it a point to eat everythng in my plate...this is what i have been taught since childhood....
also i have been taught that to take food in small quantities every time....so that if i dnt like the food i dnt have the burden to finish those....
if i like it,then i take it again and so no food gets wasted....
well at time when i am out for say buffet, and entire food menu is horrible i do have to throw it off.....bt this happens rarely with me......

I was raised the same way...My dad was stricked about eating everything that you took to put on your plate to eat..And when it came to manners we better had the best of manners when it came to the kitchen table...Now I do the same thing to my kids and sometime I thinkI'm worse than my dad was but I know my kids will have manners and repect to everyone while they are eating....

Hiya Terry, LOL what a question ;)
Even though my parents and gran parents tried to tell me to eat everything on my plate - I did not oblige ;) and I was kind of spoiled brat being the only child and grand child
And I am still not doing it if I dont feel I am hungry enough to keep on eating. If I like the food though I am getting a second serving, so it's all relative and depending ;)

Noooo! My father and I once had a face off. He wanted me to finish my food and I was full. I refused to eat any more and he refused to let me up from the table until I did. We sat there for three hours and I won. I refuse to eat something if I am not hungry.
I generally know about how much I want at home but, in restaurants, I almost immediately get a take out box because all that food is too much to look at.
The other night we had dinner at home and I left one bite of chicken and a couple of pieces of broccoli on my plat and my husband asked why I didn't eat the rest and I said I was full. He thought I was crazy since it was just a bite or two but maybe it has to do with that stand off as a kid. Now I eat only until I am full and save or ditch the rest.

That was my mothers motto as well, along with you cant have anything to drink until you have eaten all your food.
Ugh I hated that! The only time I dont mind not having anything to drink is if the food is really that good! lol Sorry to my mother, but her cooking wasnt really all that great. Edible more like it.
I dont if Im full, I feel a bit guilty too especially if Im at someone elses house or something. But Im not going to stuff myself and make myself sick if Im full or dont like something.

LOL There was 5 of us, we sort of broke her down, and I was the lucky one cos I was the youngest, so I didnt have to endure it for very long. lol Did it soung cruel? My mother was far from cruel, she was a softie!!
She said her mother wouldnt let her and her sisters drink a bunch of stuff during dinner so they would eat their food and not fill up on liquids.

Yes we had to clean our plate or sit at the table until they were clean. The kids in China were hungery and we were so lucky to have so much to eat. (So send it to China). i stared doing this with my kids too. Them one day i was hit with an epiffany. It's going to go to waist otr it was going to waste. I decided it was better to go to waste.

We were made to with our parents also. I have just started not finishing what is on my plate. I have not really pushed that on my kids, but if they don't eat what they put on their plates, I better not find them snacking.

I remember my Mum always saying this. My brother and I were made to clean our plates regardless, and even now I still find myself cleaning the plate regardless of whether I want to or not

I was forced to as a kid. I wish I had a dog to feed my food to lol. I would have been much happier about dinner time. My mom would make such awful things like Okra! The only way I can eat that stuff is if it is breaded, fried and smothered in ketchup. Blech....

Let me guess, they told you to eat everything on your plate as there are starving children in the world...No I can't remember my folks ever saying that to me, which maybe is why I'm the opposite. I eat only until I'm full so there is often leftovers. Heehhee...you gave what you didn't like to the dog?...LOL

Yes I do and I need to put a picture of my plump daughter here. She loves to eat and I love to experiment with dishes on her. Think I am overdoing it? She loves variety and she loves her vegetables although I had to do a lot of coercing for her to reach that stage. I love vegetables too and cook them more than meat. Incidentzally she lost a lot of weight during the summer I see to that.
