Wasps are pretty high on my list, too, as I was rather badly stung by one when I was a little kid, and such things are not soon forgotten. Well, out here we have something worse...Killer Bees. It is said that a reasonably healthy person can outrun a bunch of them, what what if you trip and break a leg and cannot run any more? These bees go inside the nose and mouth and ears and thousands of them attack at a time. I expect the hardest thing would be to remember not to panic. Maybe we should have Killer Bee drills out here, sort of like fire drills.

Now that you mention it, my state is at constant risk for Fire Ant infestation, but so far the most dangerous species has been kept out. Our indigenous fire ant population is much less aggressive than the fabled Killer Ants.
Texas, on the other hand, was spending over $300,000,000 a year the last time I looked to try to control their Fire Ant population. Like the Killer Bees, the imported ones are the Hell-Raisers and they have a painful bite. These would not normally kill a healthy adult, but they live in large colonies and are potential killers. The scary map on the link below shows that it is just a matter of time before they get us.
